This is my 5 shot 100 yard group. These were from clean bore.
I am more than confident in admitting error on the blue X cause the pressure of a nice group was getting to me.

Waiting on more federal215M primers.
I did shoot it on paper with the factory Ammo @300 yards. Shoots very consistently and seems to be very sub MOA at that range.

Also put it on the 10” steel gong at 550 with that factory Ammo. Calculated the dope, adjusted and rang the steel on first shot at 550 so I am happy.
Also waiting on vith powder to arrive with the F215M primers to try with the accubonds.

was just kinda curious if others with ultra lightweights has similar concerns at first and how those rifles ended up shooting

Rifles / 300WBY Ultra Lightweight
« on: February 12, 2019, 05:45:34 PM »
I recently acquired a 300WBY in a Ultra Lightweight version.  From what I can gather it is a first generation UL, as it has a stainless fluted barrel, matte black action, grey/black stock. Upon receiving it I noticed the barrel seems to rub the stock more on one side than the other. I assumed it had been improperly torqued. So i removed the barreled action from the stock and was going to re-torque the screws, when i noticed there is two pressure points in the barrel channel, and "no bedding" around the recoil lug.

My accumark has bedding material around the recoil lug, so does my "accuguard"

any thoughts on bedding the recoil lug, and the pressure points on the stock?

It is stamped
South Gate made in Japan
H prefix.

According to the chart I read it was produced in 1983-84

This topic may has been answered 1,000 times already, however I’m fairly new to Weatherby Nation and have a few “bees” and am looking at another.

I’m looking at a mark V with “South Gate” in the receiver. I was just curious of years of production that would say “South Gate”

Yes you are correct I spoke out of turn on the RL25for the 225accubonds

Who makes the Viht N165?
Not sure where to even find it.
I will try it for sure and post results. May take a few days. We are under a flood warning from now till12pm Tuesday so I prolly won’t be shooting much till after then.

Chris338378,
I was shooting the nosler 225 accubond over 109.0 grain of H1000

I have ALWAYS started at the very bottom of the powder scale and worked upwards. However, on this rifle and the results being as they have and no sign or pressure damage to case or primer I went with the 109.0 grain charge as that was nosler’s most accurate load tested and was in the middle ground of the powder scale.

Without the fouling shot, the noslers were still in the neighborhood of 2.5”-3”

I am going to try them over some RL 25

The last group I shot with the Barnes would be a 3 shot group measuring really close to 1/2” without counting the foul shot.

Doug,
I am definitely having some fun now I have found at least one load that it likes. I was starting to believe I had bought the most expensive rifle of my life and would not get it lined out to suit

Well, I decided since the factory Ammo did well,
I’d play around with the 225 Nosler accubond. So far, it hates them!
Cleaned the bore after the five shot factory group. Then loaded some Nosler accubonds to try. It was 3”.

Loaded some of the Barnes 225ttsx, and tried to replicate factory Ammo velocity. NOT max but close,
Seated same depth, and crimped.
4 shots.
1 to foul the barrel back a little, 3 shot group. 0.991”
Minus the fouling shot and it was 0.773”
So I am going to continue to experiment with powders and bullets but the Barnes 225ttsx seems to be consistently sub MOA.

For some reason that picture is rotated counter clockwise 90 degrees.
Point of impact was horizontal zero,2”-3” left
But I was more focused on group size than POI

I am going to try and upload a pic of the group from today.
It was shot with the factory Ammo @100
5shots from cold clean bore

to start off, i drilled 3/4"diameter holes 1/2" deep in a 2x4 block of scrap while i waited on a loading block to arrive from midway.  I can remember the brand name, but it is black, was on sale for $3.99 its made for .45-70Gov rounds.  Those .45-70 have that big rim.

i purchased the "hornady magnum Block" that is made for magnum rifles or 12ga shotgun, has alternating holes "shotgun rifle shotgun rifle etc"  but it was about 12"x12" square and it was just too big  took too much room on the bench, so i returned it

i like this .45-70 block  it resembles the ones i used to get made by frankfort arsenal

Those things make a lot of sense. My friends sometimes say I over complicate things, they may be correct I just like to make sure I dot the “I’s” and cross the “T’s” small details make big differences the further out and the more powder your burning.

One things for sure,
This weatherby nation group has be very welcoming and I feel at home here already. I think it’s safe to say I will put more weatherbys in the safe after my experiences here.
I did call nosler. They said the accubond LR in 265 only had one production run and were pretty much not obtainable right now. They will produce more of them June/July. As well as a new accubond LR 300gr in July.
They gave me load data for the 250gr accubond. I asked them about seating depths. They acknowledged the freebore, but said regardless the accubond uses a tangent ogive, and likes being seated deep. I will keep you posted. On the outcome.  Thanks again

chris338378,
i forgot to answer, weatherby factory ammo loaded with the barnes 225 ttsx was $130ish plus tax and $7.95 shipping, so by the time it arrives it will be around $150 per 20
