Probably going to hunt deer and elk on OTC licenses in Washington and try to limp my old carcass to Colorado for mule deer and elk.  Happy Trails

Elk / Re: what to zero 300 weatherby for elk out to 400

I zero my non-ballistic reticle setups for 2” high at 100 yards and work out the drop for various ranges using a ballistic calculator and shooting at the range to verify.

Elk / Re: 7mm weatherby

I have killed about the same number of elk with my 7mm Weatherby as my .300 Weatherby; all with Barnes TTSX bullets. Performance has been about the same. None more than a few steps. Happy Trails

The .300 Weatherby with any sturdy 165 - 180 grain bullet is one of the ultimate elk hunting calibers! I have put down elk dead right there with single hits with the .300 Roy.  Actually, I have used the 7mm Weatherby more than the .300 Weatherby on successful deer and elk hunts.  The .300 Bee is way more than adequate for anything in North America! anyone who says not is smoking something...

I am more than happy with both my 7mm WMs. Not sure that a 7/300 or 7/378 would bring much to the game except shorter barrel life and more expense reloading. The Weatherby clan seems to have a track record of solid business decisions, so I'm sure they will decide if the market is ripe for a new 7mm cartridge. I have four Mark Vs: a .30-06, 2 each 7mm Wby, and a .300 Weatherby. If that ain't enough firepower, I give up!

I have had remarkable success with my 7mm Weatherby, so I'm sure that the .270 Bee is just about the same. In studying the ballistics of each, I don't think I would have a 7mm if I had bought a .270 first, or vice versa.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Re: Scope Choice

Not to disparage other optics, but I have been extremely pleased with Burris Signature Select scopes made in USA now discontinued and known as Steiner scopes. I also have a couple of Kahles scopes which are the finest scopes I have owned. I also have several Leupolds that continue to serve well. I won't use anything made in China regardless of how good someone says it is, like Vortex, etc.

I read that article with passing interest. Years ago, I used Speer Grand Slam and Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets in factory loads with great success in .308 Win and .35 Whelen. Most shots were way under 200 yards. Along the way I have tried all manner of bullets in .30-06, 7mm Wby, and .300 Wby. I won't trash some of the other bullets mentioned but suffice it to say that the Barnes TSX and TTSX are the best that I have used in terms of accuracy and on-game performance. Like the man said, "No brag, just fact".

Drew Colorado deer license for Unit 13. Over the counter bull elk tags for that area.

Like I always tell the detractors; there are those who own Weatherby rifles and there are those who wish they did...

Unfortunately, the hubbub and furor will be over and verdicts rendered by the foolish long before the truth is revealed. Then it won't be news and no one will bat an eye.

I have deprimed many cases by using a Lee universal depriving die and hand press. Never had one pop but I always wear safety glasses when priming or depriming cases anyway.

.......and the horse they rode in on. I'm tired of all the lily-livered az-wipes and their threats. Bring it on now while I'm able to dish it back.

It is listed for $849 and in really good shape.  I already have a Mark V Lightweight .30-06 blued, but I have evil thoughts on reboring this stainless rifle to .35 Whelen.

More inputs appreciated! Thanks!
