Glad you're safe! I heard the Lt. Dan guy rode it out in the Tampa harbor on his 20' sailboat. Good for him!

I'm no hurricane expert but the direction this one has gone and is going is weird. Don't they usually go east to west with north/south movements secondary?

You guys stay safe, especially Grouchy! Definitely going to lift up some prayers over the next few days for all those affected. I hope the storm will weaken and it won't be as bad as the talking heads are saying.

Last night, I saw a grown weatherman crying on his TV cast saying he's never seen anything like this and it's all global warming and you climate deniers are the devil (paraphrasing)... it was pathetic. That's the kind of guy who pees sitting down.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Re: Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40
« on: October 02, 2024, 02:49:36 PM »
I have a Leupold Freedom 3-9x40 on my 240 Wby Mag. The scope itself is fine but I do not like the exposed elevation turret adjustment. There is a tiny little hex-head set screw that is supposed to "lock" it in place, but in the field, I accidentally bumped mine and had to go back and re-sight in the rifle. It's a bad design in my opinion. Just stick with the turret caps and protect the adjustments.

For that reason alone, I probably won't buy another one. I've been using Vortex and Burris mostly of late. Also, for cheap Chinese optics, the re-branded Academy sports exclusive Redfields have help up well in the field for me. I have a few and no complaints, yet.

I did not watch it.  I was too upset after watching the last debate that I didn't need the aggravation this late at night.  Regardless of who won, I don't believe this will change anyone's mind.  I believe we are pretty much locked up on who most of us will vote for.

Same here. I wasn't in the mood to watch the "moderators" fact-checking and bias. Some of the snippets I've seen today though look like JD handled himself pretty well.

Thanks for sharing. Those are great pictures and great trophies! I always wondered how the taxidermist handled velvet on the antlers. Do they cure it and preserve it somehow or do they strip it off and replace it with something non-organic?

14 yr old shooter's name is Colt Gray. Nothing else really revealed that I've seen, yet. Being a minor, that's not surprising. I think this will either fit the liberal narrative and become a rally cry for those fools OR quietly go away if the narrative isn't self serving for those goons like we've seen in the past.

I don't have any issues with suppressors other than I think they make a traditional rifle look ugly.

Agree with y'all on the nonsenseness of the entire NFA classification for them too.

I would be hard for me to send money to a guy that hasn't been here for a while and hope to get what you paid for.

good point, just saw he only has one post.

What are the details on the 270 Wby factory ammo? Can you post a picture or two?

I try and take a different rifle out with me each time I'm deer hunting, alternating between 2 rifles for a day or two or three in the woods.

This year for opening weekend, I'm planning on making it a "7mm" weekend. Right now, the plan is to take my 280 Rem and 7x57 Ackley, both custom Mauser 98 platforms. I might make Thanksgiving a "6mm" trip and take my 240 Weatherby and 6mm Rem or a 243.

I've had sub-par results doing hot and cold bluing myself and finally resided to the fact that the good lord did not bless me with that particular skill set.

Any metal finishing work like that I contract out now with much better results.

« on: August 06, 2024, 06:08:19 AM »
I have never used a torque tool when mounting a scope. I've always snugged all the screws with lock-tite and never had a scope go loose on me.

The most expensive scope I own is probably $400 and the average scope price for me is usually well under that. I've never missed a shot because I had a cheap or loose scope in the equation.

Great looking trophies and taxidermy work! Thanks for sharing. I like your buffalo feet ash trays... never thought of that!

Congrats on your retirement and thank you for your service, Oscar! Looking forward to hearing about that 416 and a buffalo hunt.
