Rifles / Re: 270 Wby Mag

LOVE my 270 Wby its lights out with a Swarovski scope. It's an expensive package that at my age of 64 I think I finally deserve. I travel with it and hunt everything but grizzly with it. Then the 300 comes out. The 270"s travel partner is a Vanguard.  257 also topped with a Swarovski both gorgeous wood in a pelican case. I stuff a soft case in my luggage for around camp. I own 29 Weatherby's and my 270 Mark V Wby mag out shoots them all the next most accurate is a vanguard 257 Wby mag and then it's a toss-up between a Mark V 300 or a Mark V 240.
It's been fun collecting them and the stories behind the guns.
Good luck this season to all.

I own both to 270 Weatherby Magnum And the 257 Weatherby Magnum and I live in Nashville Tennessee with also hunting in Missouri and Mississippi I take my 270 first. Any terrain Coyote fox or large buck it’s a done deal. Don’t shy away from the vanguards I own 21 of them and on a cold day with your handshaking the quarter inch bullet placement Has never been an issue. I like the wood guns because I’m old fashion and yes it does hurt when you get a scratch on them. I just call it  another chapter in the story of that gun.
Sad part here is my 257 is my favorite but for the big boys with horns take your 270

Rifles / Re: Old VS Vanguard 270 WBY Magnum Help Needed
« on: April 06, 2019, 09:17:28 AM »
Thank you my friend for your expertise and knowledge on my rifle I did get it out of the safe and found out a few more details it does say made in Japan but it also says Southgate California my serial number is VS 205XX  with that few  of serial numbers I’m assuming the gun is old it does have the walnut stock like you described however somebody told me that the shark fin break cuts at the end of the barrel were done by Weatherby at one time they say that if it says Southgate California  it’s a Mauser gun. Really confused on this one and I also think that it might have a recall on it and I’ve been down that road before and it was perfectly seamless Weatherby did everything exactly right as always.
Thanks again and I will add some photos that may help

« on: April 05, 2019, 01:37:34 PM »
Hey guy's and Gal's old guy needs some help. My First Post I own 25 plus of these amazing Weatherby's and I just purchased a new one at a estate sale today. Just my luck Weatherby not opened today. Its a serial number of VS 20### Vanguard pretty but no forearm cap or diamond cap below. looks like old version of a sportsman. I am told Vanguard did not come in a
270 WBY M. Vanguard in the VS but not only that the barrel has brakes cut into it like shark fins. I am confused what I have here mounted under a old leupold scope. Thank you for any response I may get.
