Gorgeous rifle.  My frist one came with a 2-7 power "Weatherby" scope.  Elevation and Windage adjustments are both on top

I have a Japanese Mark V (I think mine is a little later year), but still with the thin barrel.  I bought it used, it has a brake, looks like typical Weatherby brake, but it must have been installed at a later time.  Starting with a call to Weatherby is a great suggestion.

Rifles / Re: New Sheridan Weatherby is VERY nice.

For the 300 I have used successfully 3 powders.
RL 22 with 200 grn Accubonds and Partitions. Using it on two diffferent MKV (one Japanese, one US)
IMR 4350 with 180 grn BT (german MKV)
IMR 7828 with 180 TSX (Late US MKV, not WY)
All shoot less than 1/2" @ 100 yards and all at factroy lengh.  I could improve, maybe but why try

Weatherby, like most major firearm manufactures, just printed generic manuals.  The manual I referred to was a generc one for the pre Mark V rifles.  You can get a good quality pdf version directly from weatherby

Reach out to Weatherby.  They will tell you.  And for a small fee they might be able to provide some official documentation

Rifles / Re: Help With An Old German Mark V Trigger Group
« on: October 11, 2022, 06:00:40 PM »
You are correct, it was a known issue, most people have replaced them more than 40 years ago/
There are no replacement triggers for it anymore.  I have the same rifle, which I retired 20 years ago.  Keeping mine original. Trigger is intact.
You might find a an old Canjar, but its extremely rare.  Tminey used to have one, but not in a few decades.
The only solution is to send it to Weatherby, they will replace the bolt sleeve if they still have it, and install a more modern triger.

She is hard of hearing.  I hope she runs for national office so the WHOLE country can repeat the message!

Someone got a great deal!  Enjoy it!

Real nice rifle, just have too many on that caliber.
One thing that has me confused, Serial number with "S", MKV and Made in USA.
Anyways, good luck, someone will get a real nice rifle.

It's a cartridge that was built for a specific rifle. You can't get a 338 Win Mag in a sub 5lb rifle unless you want to spend a truck bed load of money

That makes perfect sense.  Thnk you

First of all I like to have choices.  I also like WBY calibers, I have 5 MKV rifles.
So, my qestion is this, what does the 338 Wby RPM offer over a 338 Win Mag?  Is it the fact that it has no belt?  I have been loading WBY calibers for 40 years, belt does not scare me.  Maybe I am missing something...
Anyways, like I said, it is Great to have choices...

Rifles / Re: Mark V bolt fails to lock with the safety on
« on: June 14, 2022, 04:15:16 PM »
I have a 1958 made by Sauer.  It has a trigger safety and does lock the bolt when safety is on.

I have a 1958/59 Made in Germany by Sauer. Smooth bolt.  Has the tang dafety that locks the trigger.  I believe all the early German MK V with the bolt safety had been retrofited by the factory afterwards.

Rifles / Re: 1958 German WBY 300 Mark V
« on: June 10, 2022, 03:57:36 AM »
I have a 1958 German MKV 300 WBY as well.  Mine has a 12 twist.  I didn't think any early German had a 10 twist.  Those came later.  Mine shoots 180 grains handloads in 1/2".
I heard about the trigger falling appart but not the safety failing.  I hunted with mine many years, but retired it.
If you get a new bolt, then you can get a new trigger. High cost in my opinion.  That's why I bought a new rifle instead.

Accessories / Weatherby Mark V single set trigger
« on: January 24, 2022, 09:54:16 AM »
Did Weatherby ever offer a single set trigger for the MKV that did not have any Canjar markings, and only had the top center mouting screw? No hole for the front mounting screw.  It looks just like a weatherby trigger, but its single set.
