Snuck up on this jake in the woods after we saw them on the edge of the field, when we were leaving.

Shot this bearded hen Tuesday morning, while waiting on some toms to come by. She had a 7" beard....

Very nice, congrats.  Now, I've never seen a bearded hen before, thanks for sharing!

Good hunting! I miss seeing (and hearing) turkeys. Fish and Game introduced them into these mountains about twenty-five years ago, but they never took off the way they have in the rest of California. Too many bobcat and mountain lion, I'm told.

The bearded hens are a freak of nature but they do exist. Nice birds.

Tennessee's law is the same.... It must be bearded. The only thing is, we have so many turkeys in my area, it doesn't hurt to shoot a hen.

Congratulations, sounds like a good season for you. In Pennsylvania legal birds must have a beard that can be seen. It does not matter if it's a hen. The beard makes it legal here. Another example, a buck that has dropped his antlers is legal game here in doe season. That's why it's offically called antlerless season.

Congrats! Great looking birds and a great start to the season. At that rate you shouldn't have any trouble tagging out this year. By the looks of all that green in the back ground, I guess the rainfall has been plenty? My very first turkey was a bearded hen whose beard had a crimp in it about half way down. Still have it somewhere.
