Scope Mounting Woes
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:16:22 AM »
Man I'm struggling here lately!  Got talley rings in the mail from Weatherby yesterday and put them on my Accuguard today.  They look good.  Then I went to put on my scope. The scope will not fit.  On the first Vanguard I got years ago I put a Cabelas Outfitter scope on it.  It works great!  I happened to get a good deal on another one last week so I went with that.  The taper on the front of the scope does not clear the scope rings.
**SIGH**
One pic shows that the scope is as far forward as it can go. The other shows from the top where the scope starts to taper vs. my rings.

Does it say they also fit Remington 700? If it does, you got the wrong rings. Maybe for the Accumark?  Give Talley a call or a email and they will fix your problem, great people to deal with!  Good Luck!  :-)

Can't you reverse the front mount?

I get my rings from Weatherby and they say "Fits all Weatherby Vanguard Rifles"

Can't you reverse the front mount?
Mounts are turned so they are the shortest distance apart.

Petey, I had the same problem with my Mark V ULW last week. I ordered Talley lightweight mounts from Talley and the edge of the bell on my Zeiss was in the front ring. So I ended up putting Leupolds on and there was just enough room!!! So now I need to buy another Mark V and scope to fit those mounts!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Starting to sound like the package was marked wrong.  The Talley part number should be 9_0734, second digit indicates height.  3 is low, 4 is medium and 5 is high. I did have a package from them that was marked 30mm rings and  actually were 1" rings.  Their service is as good as it gets from my experience.  :-)

They are the right ones.  They are from Weatherby and they say "Vanguard" on them.  It's just the scope I picked. I'll see if I can swap off of one of my other rifles, or I'll return the scope and find another that will work.

You might want to call Talley and tell them your problem and I bet they replace them with extended ones.

Yes, exactly. I have one rifle (not one of my Wby's) that I mounted a (shorter bodied) scope on - had the same issues. Talley does make extended rings - made life so much easier.

Your issues is with the length of the body of the scope, not the rifle or the mounts - but still a good excuse for another rifle :)

I had the same issue with a scope. I highly recommend calling them if you have any questions or not sure witch mount to use they can give you the right one.

Talley does offer extended alloy rings for the Vanguard. That is probably the least expensive resolution to your issue.

I tried mounting a Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 and same scenario with low Talleys, the scope was to short for a long action as the ocular bell would hit the base of the mounts.

I got rid of the scope.........and went back to a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40
Problem solved !

This has been an on going problem for a few years with  short tube scopes.   What problem does it create the biggest one is the in-ability of mounting your scope with the correct eye relief so that the scope sits naturally without having to move your head fore and aft to get a clear 100 % sight picture.   Other problem is they don't always fit on your new rifle due to scopes  bell to bell distance without some type of ring extension or changing rings and or the scope itself.  Extension rings are definitely a good thing when all else fails.  Best to measure a rifles out side to outside ring length before buying a scope,   OR  to save grieve down the road especially when a person may be taking that scope off and mounting on another rifle is to buy a scope with a lot of bell to bell length.  Best to measure the ring saddle height to make sure you are buying the correct height ring's,  leupold measures differently than other ring makers.
