Happy New Year to all! I joined this forum back in 2016 but never made an introduction. My name is Jeff and I'm a long time Weatherby owner down in Texas. I primarily hunt whitetail but occasionally other stuff when the opportunity presents. I've been deer hunting for over 20 years.

I currently own the following Weatherby rifles along with some other stuff: 240 Wby Mag (Custom Mauser 98 - ER Shaw), 257 Wby Mag (Vangaurd synthetic, soon to be restocked in walnut), 270 Wby Mag (Mark V Sporter), 7mm Wby Mag (Synthetic, soon to be restocked in walnut too), 300 Wby Mag (Vanguard sporter, already restocked in vintage walnut).

Sooner or later, I plan to acquire a 224 Wby Mag and a 6.5-300 Wby Mag.

Again, hello and Happy New Year!!

Welcome and Happy New Year to you also. Where are you in Texas?

I'm in the DFW area, Rowlett specifically. I currently hunt out West but have generally hunted all over the state.

Thanks for the welcome all!

Welcome to the Nation! Sounds like you have a nice collection going!! I am a Fan of wood too!

When I was younger, I bought into the arguments in favor of synthetic over wood stocks. As I've aged however, I realized the arguments really don't matter that much anymore (for me at least) and I love the look of a nice piece of walnut, or maple, or something exotic!

I have reworked a few pieces of walnut in my collection of rifles, recently hand-checkering my 7x57 stock this past summer. It was my first attempt and I'm pleased with the result. I'll see if I can post a pic of it later.

All that said, I still have respect for those who prefer plastic over wood. Different strokes for different folks!

Welcome to the Nation JW.  Nice selection of Weatherbys.  I like a wood stock with character, and have several, and I also like synthetic stock rifles too.  Each has their own place in this world.  ;D  Post picture when you can, we all like Weatherby porn.  8) 8)

Going to try and upload a few pics here... I'll have to get some pics of my 257 & 7mm Wby later this week as I couldn't find any existing in my files.

First off, here is my first Weatherby rifle. It's a 1917 Erfurt Mauser 98 chambered in 240 Weatherby. It currently wears a 3-9x40 Nikon ProStaff. Currently I have it in a glass-bedded Fajen plastic stock but there is a piece of walnut on my workbench I aim to get fitted onto this before long. It has a Timney deluxe trigger with side safety. I built this rifle in the early 2000s.

Next up is my 300 Weatherby. I bought this rifle for $350 on closeout at Cabelas several years ago, just after the S2 Vanguards came out. It is a Vanguard Sporter and originally came with a plastic stock but I found a beat-up vintage long-action Vanguard stock on ebay for $80 and refinished it. I think it turned out great. It wears a Weaver 3-9x40 scope currently.
