Looking for information on these rings

These rings were installed on the rifle (W. Germany mfg) when purchased it 12 years ago, along with a Weatherby Primiere scope.  Has anyone saw these before or are they just someones aftermarket attempt at engraving?  I am leaning towards the latter but since I do not have any experience or knowledge of engraving I just want to make sure.

Well I don't have any knowledge about things like that. But to me they too look like someone's aftermarket attempt at engraving. It just doesn't look good enough to come out of a Weatherby factory. Hopefully someone will know.
