4 shots to foul
« on: September 12, 2018, 02:56:14 PM »
Had  to make 4 shots today at the range with a cleaned oiled bore before my rifle started grouping. I did torque my stock to 50 inch pounds and it really helped. My new S-2 2506 needs four shots to start grouping after a good cleaning. Just a word of advice that I learned don't adjust that scope until it settles down. My fifth shot was dead on and the sixth cut the hole of the fifth. My Weatherby 3006 needs two fouling shots and my Rem 2506 needs one and you better patch it after five. So every rifle has a mind of its own but we all know that.

Amen on each rifle has a mind of it's own!  I keep notes on such things!  :)

My new 6.5-300 ultralight shoots bang on with a clean bore! I have never had a rifle that did that!
Better a sister in a whorehouse than a brother with a Remington!

The barrels I bought in the last 10 years have needed virtually no “break in” time to start grouping within four or five shots. Factory barrels on Weatherby rifles, ER Shaw and McGowen barrels have been remarkably good virtually from the start.

I recently cleaned my 6mm creedmore. After cleaning, first shot was 1” low, next 2 were in the bullseye. Ruger Precision rifle.

Reading this it seems he cleaned and oiled the bore, then shot it. Wipe/patch the oil out first. I never oil the bore unless it is going to sit for a very long time and wipe it out before shooting.  Some cold bore shots are darn close others not so much.
