Proof Research Carbon Barrels

Proof Research Carbon Barrels

This one is for the rumor mill until someone at Weatherby sees it.

I know Weatherby has a Mark V offering with a proof barrrl now. I was thinking about getting my Accumark rebarreled. Will the custom shop soon offer rebarreling with the Proof barrels?

I sent them an email yesterday to see if they would rebarrel my old 340 Euromark. They said they aren't providing that service at this time.   :'(

Which Mark V was it that was/is offered with the Proof Research barrel? The custom shop configurator is no longer available on the website. I suspect they have a huge backlog to clear after moving.

The Mark V Carbonmark listed in the website.

The Mark V Carbonmark was introduced in January of 2018.   At the time a lot was made about the price and how they might not sell well in this economy. Other comments were that they weren't being used to win shooting matches, Nosler was offering a less expensive carbon barrel rifle, that you could probably build your own for less money and that the only real advantage was the reduced weight. A year later, I don't know if more advantages have been realized since the unveiling of the Mark V Carbonmark.

I have to agree. I have my TRR and TacMark which are about as precise as I'm ever going to need. If I was building a true bolt action match rifle, I would not start with a Weatherby or any other production rifle for that matter. Still, it is nice to see that Weatherby is testing the waters. I like that.

If a custum rifle is what i wanted KS arms builds them from the groung up, but they don't export any of their finished products.

I've been thinking about building one but at the same time I keep telling myself to thin the herd. If I was to build one, I would probably start with a Surgeon blueprinted action and send it to Bartlien to have it barreled. I'd probably have it chambered in .284 Win because that's one cartridge that I've always been interested in and don't have.

Some of the long range hunting rifles are going to carbon fiber to get barrel length without a lot of added weight.

HDH: l agree the 284 is a great cartridge, build it on a long action so you can seat the long high BC bullets out farther and not use up so much case  capacity, cut the chamber  accordingly and enjoy!!

I have a good friend that has been building some rifles with proof carbon barrels and I have been very impressed with the accuracy.  Big stiff barrel without all the weight, and they dissipate heat faster than an all steel barrel.

I heard on Weatherby’s podcast that BSF Barrels is providing all the Carbon Fiber barrels for Weatherby now

Seems Weatherby made a good choice in going with BSF barrels. Wonder if the barrels have some sort of BSF proof mark, and who made the original Mark V Carbonmark barrels for Weatherby. That last bit of the question may be answered on the website? There are two short videos on the link, and they're impressive.
