Finally drew a good tag

I finally drew a pretty decent elk tag.  I drew the mid season rifle tag for the Wasatch in Utah.  I haven't hunted there before but it has a high kill rate and people take some nice bulls there every year.  It will be a great trip regardless though as both my sons are going to be able to go too.  I just bought my second Mark V.  This one is in 300 weatherby and will be my primary weapon.  I have a vanguard in 300 weatherby that I've been using for years.  Finally upgraded..lol.

Congratulations on gaining the elk tag. Are your sons going as guests, or will they be hunting other game? Congrats on a new Mark V also, perfect caliber for your hunt.

I'm planning on working up some hand loads for the new gun.  I've been using 180 nosler partitions with IMR 7828sc powder with good results in my vanguard.  I have 180 and 200 grain partitions, 180 barnes ttsx, and a few different powders to see what the new gun likes. 

My boys are trying to get spike bull tags for the same area.  Otherwise they'll just be tagging along for fun.

Where on the Wasatch front are you going to try? I live along the Wasatch front. I tried drawing for the Phavant. But with only 7 points I had basically no chance of getting it. Keep us updated on how the hunt goes. This year I'm just going to get a spike tag and go to West Fork of the Duchene region.

I haven't really decided where in the zone I'm going yet.  I'll be heading out in Sept to scout the area.  I haven't hunted there before and didn't expect to draw the tag yet.  I only had 6 points, so only about a 4 percent chance to draw. I'll keep you guys posted and any input would be appreciated.  Please PM it though.  Thanks.
