congrats and welcome to the nation.  by the way, have you shot many and / or much with rifles of approximately the same recoil?  i picked up a used Made in Japan MkV in 340 Wby, and though i'm really enjoying it, it is quite a challenge for me to shoot well off the bench.  i think a 338-378 is beyond my capability right now....

Thank you! I currently have a accumark in 300 win mag. But i have never shot anything as big as the 378. Im excited. Its been a dream to own this calibre! It does have the accubrake so im not overally worried about recoil. Its funny you mention a jap 340, i just sold mine to buy the trex gun lol

With the break it's not bad to shoot at all recoil wise.  The big things you need to get use to is the loud report and when shooting it off a bench you're going to feel a puff of air hit your face.  It's not bad but does take some getting use to.

You're welcome.  Some other things I will say is absolutely make sure anyone who's around you when you shoot it is wearing ear plugs/muffs.  When you're hunting with it at bare minimum put a ear plug in your off shooting side (if you're right handed it'd be your left ear and vice versa if you're left handed) ear.  When I first got mine I never thought about this and when I shot my bear I got one heck of a surprise.  I thought I ruptured my ear drums because they were ringing for two weeks and it felt like someone stabbed a knife into them.  When you put an ear plug in one ear it makes your hearing unbalanced and makes you think everything is coming from the side without the ear plug.  I've taught myself to look to my left first when I hear a noise since I wear the ear plug in my left ear.  This takes some getting use to but can be done with some practice.  When you're shooting it off a bench you're going to feel a puff of air hit your face when you shoot it which until you get use to it it will surprise you.  Also anything on the bench will be blow around.  I had a box of ammo standing up with the bullet tips facing down and primers facing up on the bench and the puff of air knocked the box over.  Also if you never shot a rifle with a break keep in mind that there's holes on the bottom of the break and will blow up dirt and snow when you shoot.  Once I used a snow covered boulder for a rest while shooting a deer and didn't have the muzzle break beyond the edge of the rock and when I shot it blew up the snow and it looked like I was in a snow globe.  Needless to say I had to laugh at myself but if I needed to take a follow up shot I certainly would've had to wait a little while for the snow to clear.  If I'm shooting a deer at less than 100-150 yards I'll shoot them in the neck or thread the bullet between the ribs because if you hit the shoulder you're going to do massive damage.  Beyond 150 yards you don't cause as much damage because the bullet has lost some velocity.  I bought my Accumark the first year they made them and ABSOLUTELY and COMPLETELY LOVE it.  There's nothing it won't do and I've shot it so much it's almost like the rifle knows what I want to do on it's own.

as for ammo, I reload and with my 338-378, I use a 265gr barnes lrx with sub MOA accuracy.  2900fps with h4831 powder.  went with a heavy bullet to go on Nilgai hunt in Texas.

Barnes TSX 225 gr at 3150 fps with RL 25.  My accumark 338-378 Bee prints them at 1.1" at 200 yards.

So after a week and a half my accumark arrived To say that I was excited was a huge understatement! She was printed with 225 tsx's and grouped them .79" for a 3 shot group. And fired by none other then Adam Weatherby Cant wait to get glass on her and take out for a few rounds Then load development will begin!!!!

For your load work up I'd start off with the Barnes they mentioned and look to duplicate the velocity they have listed in the ballistics chart.  I would also try other brands to see if it likes something else.  One thing to keep in mind is Weatherby only offers factory loaded ammo in 225 grain Barnes TTSX and 250 grain Nosler Partitions these days.  There's lots of other quality bullets that may shoot even smaller groups.  I'm a big fan of Nosler bullets and use them in my rifle.  Another good bullet that's highly under rated are the Hornady bullets.  Please keep us posted on how your load development is coming and feel free to ask any questions you may have.  One tip I'll give you is I use a 20 gauge loading block when I load for my rifle because the cases won't fit in a standard loading block.
