Mounts/rings for proper eye relief Leupold VX5 on Mark V

Mounts/rings for proper eye relief Leupold VX5 on Mark V

I am having an eye relief problem where I can’t get the scope rearward enough.  I am mounting a Leupold VX5 on a Mark V.  The only way I can mount the scope back far enough to get proper eye relief at 15X is with a Pic rail and Warne Mountain Tech rings but now the scope is too high for a proper cheek weld.  I ordered a set of Leupold DD RVF to be able to move the scope rearward and low enough but thinking I still may have to go with the Ext Front Ring to get it back far enough.  The tube in front of the turret is so short there is almost no room to move the scope in the front ring.  Has anyone else experienced this problem with this scope and if so what was your solution?

I was just researching this (still deciding on the right scope). Weatherby site has this in their FAQ:
9 lug Mark V or Vanguard: Leupold Models – 51701-51710

6 lug Mark V: Leupold models – 52507-52510

https://weatherby.com/support/faq/

Same site has information on Talley bases.

I had the same problem with a different scope and bought a set of the extended Talley lightweights and was able to mount mine far enough back. You could buy a set and return them if they don't work??

What height did you go with BB? I am going to use the same scope and Talley lightweights on the Mark V Field Worn rifle I am getting. I looked at Talleys website and it said I will get away with Lows.

I went with the mediums in the belief that all my scopes would be basically the same height on my rifles when I shoulder them and then won't have to search for my crosshairs in a hurried shooting situation??

Yes that is a good idea Doug. Most of my rifles are the same too. Mainly in low rings as most wear a scope with 40mm objective rings. So I was hopping the 44mm objective of the VX5 will still fit.

Brett if you lived here in the states it would be a lot easier, I'm pretty sure you'd need the mediums but I could be wrong. Can you confirm with Talley? And I assume there's other hurdles you have to jump thru to get them to Australia, can you have them shipped by mail directly to you.

Doug I looked on Talleys website and it said lows will work for 40-44mm objectives. No it was easy getting them thru Brownwells Australia. No hurdles needed for once. They are being posted to me. I am not to worried if they don't fit this scope as I have other Leupold rings and bases that will work. Then I will just use the Talleys on a different rifle and scope.

My thoughts exactly, if the Talleys don't work that's a perfect excuse to put another rifle under them so they don't go to waste!!!
