Heres what happened. For anyone still wanting to see the Tucker Carlson video and explanation of the Cabela's fiasco, I'll post the link. He starts out giving a view of what's happening in rural America, more and more, when greedy investment companies set their sights on making money. Paul Singer, the hedge fund owner of "Elliott Management", is a major Republican party donor, and seemingly can't be stopped, because regardless of how unfair his practices are, no one wants to bite the hand that feeds them. Lobbyist at work. You know, now that sounds like a real Quid Pro Quo to me. You can click the link to watch the video here.

I don't understand, did the store in Sidney close after the sale and all those people lost their jobs? If the Cabelas is still open there how did this effect the city so much?

Besides the store I think it was the distribution center for other stores.

Bass Pro bought Cabelas and the headquarters for Cabelas was in this small town of Sydney. They said on the story about it that some 2000 residents of Sydney were either out of a job or they were demoted to less paying jobs, and part time jobs instead of fulltime jobs.

When Bass Pro took over all the staff jobs were transferred to Bass Pro headquarers and those who had similar jobs in Sidney were out.  Cabelas in Sidney is just a shell of what it used to be.  Does anyone remember Adam Bender from the old Cabeles forum?

I'm a little lost on this one Who actually bought out Cabelas ?  Does Bass Pro  not own it anymore ?   Anyway took a trip to the valley today (the valley is what we call Phoenix) strictly for the intent to go Christmas shopping at Cabelas,  Bass Pro and Sportsmans Warehouse  and a few other stores my wife wanted to shop at.   Cabelas was very very busy,  Bass Pro was just slightly less busy in other words both were crowded.  Lots of goodies on the shelves in both stores although Weatherby ammo was scarce to say the least in all 3 stores, and I don't know why it's not like everyone shoots Weatherby calibers I don't understand why the shelves were so bare of Weatherby ammo ?

As I understand Cabelas was pushed into selling by the investor Paul Singer after he bought a bunch of shares.
Bass Pro bought it but moved head office and distribution out of Sidney. That caused Sidney's problems and many that were Cabelas shoppers don't like the Bass Pro merchandise.

Man, I knew Cabela’s sold and Bass Pro bought them but I didn’t know about any of this. We have have 2 of each around the DFW area and it’s been my experience that Cabela’s has always had the superior inventory and staff, at least around here. I was worried things might go south after the sale but so far there has been no noticeable change. I don’t always buy from Cabela’s by any stretch but they are nice to have around when you want a “hands on” experience, and sometimes they legitimately do have the best price. I bought my Beretta shotgun there as a new but displayed gun and it beat all the used prices on Gunbroker by a few hundred dollars.

I do all of my shopping at Cabela's on line. Their website is very easy to find and purchase gear from.
I love the selection and sales (free delivery over $100.00). I haven't bought anything from Bass Pro in years and don't plan to.

How does an 11% hold have that much pull?
I know what I know if you know what I mean

Come and take it.

The people he donates to are the thug muscle. Unfortunately this seems to be a case where the Republicans that could make a difference won't step in to control the unfair practices, since they're the recipients of Paul Singer's large donations to them and the party.

My original question who actually bought Cabela's ?  Was it some sort of investment group or some other group ?  If anyone actually knows or the new owners want to keep it a tight lipped for awhile ?   I kind of agree once Bass Pro took over Cabela's   things started looking differently as far as stock items,  then you see Tracker Boats  in Cabela's,   the company lost it's identity I think and that's not a good thing IMO.  Maybe for me it's time to take a wait and see approach and hopefully the new owners will have to will have enough bells to bring it back to Sydney,  and  return Cabela's back to the forefront ,  one could hope anyway.   I generally don't buy a lot of stuff from either company now days,  I do enjoy looking around in their stores.   If you shop around on the net I generally can find good deals on most stuff for the same or very similar products even sale items I can find in other places for the same or less price.

Cabela’s has sold overpriced junk for the last two or three years. We have several of them around here. When I need something I now go to Scheels.

The only large chain in my part of the US that is not way overpriced is Academy. Even at that, I buy most of my guns from a couple of Houston small guys that are cheaper even than Academy (1911 Enterprises and The Scopesmith). 1911's website has been down for at least a week, so I'm wondering he (Russ) closed up. Academy's sale prices are very good though.
Come and take it.

We have a Cabela's and a Scheels here in Northern Nevada. I have a Scheels "Black Card" so that should tell you where my loyalty has gone. Scheels employees are not difficult to locate nor are they lacking in knowledge and I have yet to have one not go the extra mile to make sure I was happy with my experience. I've even been treated to lunch and their café is 10 times better than Cabela's. No, I haven't ridden the Ferris Wheel yet. They don't stock Weatherby rifles (they have a few Shotguns) but if you want one, they'll get it for you. I go to Sportsman's Warehouse for my Weatherby's though.
