A HUNTING rifle that rattles  :o That makes 0 sense.

That is exactly what I said. The majority of these detachable mags are made for benchrest and target rifles. The bloke I spoke to yesterday said he had 8 of them I think and they ALL were made like that.

Brett, Wow this keep getting all the more ridiculous. I would find it very difficult in the future to consider ordering a rifle directly  from Weatherby not knowing exactly what type of quality I'd be getting!!! I realize they outsourse a lot of their work now, but you'd think some type of quality control person would step in and say something, it will be interesting to see if they can do anything to correct this.

Yep you got that right Doug. I am not angry this has happened. I am in fact VERY DISSAPOINTED that Weatherby has made a rifle like this. I truly cannot believe that would let something like this out their door. It is so not up to the high standard I thought they put on themselves.
So yes now I am wondering if anyone of us is to order a new rifle can we expect it to now be poorly made? Has Weatherbys standards dropped?....

This whole episode is beyond belief. For a company that is family owned, that has for 70+ yeats prided itself on the quality of its products, to turn out a rifle that rattled like a Model T beating down a washboard road and to the tune of +$4000.00 is hard to imagine except you're living it! Roy would be livid to have his name on it. Where is Ed much less Adam. I guess the siren song of cheap elk tags in Wyoming overwhelms their vision. Why haven't they posted anything on response. Businesses should accept responsibility for their errors instead of feebley claiming that "They are supposed to be like that". What Bullshit!!! GJ

BB, You figure that at least they would have described the rifle better and the rattling of the magazine as just the way we're building this model. If they had, odds are you wouldn't have bought this rifle, and they probably wouldn't have sold many. (if any at all)

Danno50 you're right, if people knew the magazine rattles that bad and it was made that way they wouldn't have sold any of those rifles especially at that price.  To design a magazine for a hunting rifle like that is totally stupid, there's no other way to say it.  Heck a magazine on an AK doesn't rattle that bad and they're made to be used and abused.  The other thing that's for sure is Roy and Ed wouldn't have left such a terrible design be put on a rifle that has their name on it.  Ultimately this terrible design decision falls on Adam's desk because he's the boss and should've known these magazines rattle like that and let it be put on a rifle that bears his family's name.  Weatherby was always know as the epitome of quality, the Rolls-Royce of firearms, but the quality on that is non-existent.  The only way to make that right is to take off the magazine assembly, throw it in the garbage, and put a trigger guard and floor plate on it.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.

I'm wondering if this is a Weatherby made magazine or did Weatherby go to an outside source and buy from a low bid contractor? If they used a low bid supplier, that's exactly what they got, LOW BID. Weatherby needs to start building their own mags to properly fit their rifle and send the upgraded mags to all buyers of that rifle. That's the only way they will regain respect from customers. Own up to the mistake, correct it, problem solved. You don't want to start down a road of second rate products. If you do you might as well change your name to Remington.

So I received a phone call from the Weatherby importers yesterday... and well it seems that these rifles are MADE this way!! Yep made with a lose rattling magazine by Weatherby. Yes you are reading this right. Apparently these detachable mag kits are made by an out sourced company (can't remember the name sorry) and they need to have all that wiggle room for them to release properly. Why, I do not know. They are not compatible with any other make of magazine. The magazine and bottom metal are sent to Weatherby, cerakoted and the fitted to these rifles. I really am amazed that a company that I thought prided itself on quality built rifles would build something as terrible fitting as this thing. I really can't believe they have made it on porpoise....
Weatherby told the guys here to make sure they look after me and the bloke I spoke on the phone is very sympathetic and wants to try and fix the rifle. He said if I can to return it to them he will have their gun smith have a look at it. It will take some time as the smith is very busy and the bushfires are causing problems too. He said he will put a priority on it but it will still take a while. But after all that was said I was still told they may not be able to do anything with it as they are made that way....

So the S2 with the melted stock on the other thread and this Mark V are both stamped "Wyoming" .   Might it mean the value of our California, Japanese and German made Mark V's are rapidly going up in value?

I didn't see the post about the S2 with the melted stock, do you have a link to it?  If this is the new level of quality coming from Weatherby I'd say the value of the old ones is definitely going to go up and it's time to start buying as many as you can.

Brett, I am sorry to read of your troubles with this situation and very surprised Weatherby, of all gun makers, would let these out the door. We buy their products for quality/precise function as much as accuracy and this just doesn't fit the bill. Based on what you have described, Weatherby should recall this model and retrofit with proper fitting magazines (or scrap the model and give credit towards something else). We all know a magazine does NOT have to fit like a hotdog down a hallway to function well (in fact, the more precisely and consistently the magazine positions on insertion, the better). I hope this is not the future of the other rifles. Perhaps the best design engineers didn't make the move last year? Hope that's not the case.
Come and take it.

There are lots of magazines that fit perfectly and don't rattle like that, just look at the Remington 740, 760, 7400, 7600, Winchester 88, Sako Finwolf, and even Savage 99's which had a detachable magazine to name just a few.  Someone screwed up royally when they decided to allow that garbage to be attached to a Weatherby rifle.  The big question here how big of a black eye is Weatherby going to have over this?  I'm sure the Weatherby haters are absolutely loving this and spreading the word about it as fast as they can to anyone and everyone who will even remotely listen to them.

It's the S2 Syhthetic stock thread. I asked about the Wyoming stamp on that one 2.
