I know I’ve seen here before but I can’t locate at the moment. What is the best product to clean the copper from a 257 barrel? I just received a 257 for Christmas and have 12 rounds through it with 3 whitetail kills. What is the best product to remove the copper build up in the barrel? It’s been cleaned twice but not convinced it is good enough.

BTE,  bore tech eliminator is the only thing to use for copper fouling. Try it once and you won't go back to what you were using.

Bore Tech CU+2.  I understand it is specifically formulated to remove copper.  Bore Tech Eliminator is a good all round cleaning solvent that will remove copper, lead, carbon and powder fouling.  Other products like Montana Extreme will get the copper out but they will also disembowel your breathing apparatus.   Bore Tech products are designed to be used in a closed environment, ammonia based products are not.  I found this out the hard way.

Your Welcome, dont use bronze brushes or jags with it you will get a false positive. Use nylon.

A sure sign you need to do a serious copper removal job is when accuracy goes south. Aside from that, some copper in the barrel is alright. Removing all the copper is going to take a long time, plus as soon as you are using copper bullets, the copper goes back into those places where you worked long and hard to free of copper.
Also, powders such as RL-23 and RL-26 have anti-coppering agents to help keep the copper from sticking to the bore. I have used a lot of RL-26, firing mostly all-copper bullets, in my 7mm Weatherby. The bore has virtually no copper.
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.

I have some of that coming in mail. How exactly do you use it? Do you let it soak for an hour or two or just use it like a regular bore cleaner?

Sorry I didn't see your question sooner! I usually use it like a regular bore cleaner 5-10 minutes, I have tried letting it soak but haven't noticed any big improvement. Have you tried using it if its already arrived?

I've never used Boretech but I have heard lots of good stuff about it.  I've been using Sweets762 and Montana Extreme for years and don't have any complaints however I'd strongly advise against trying to smell it to see what it smells like.  I will say it'll definitely clean out your sinuses no matter how clogged they are.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.
