New 7mm Weatherby
« on: January 07, 2020, 07:47:48 PM »
When Weatherby moved to Wyoming the talk of a new cartridge started.
My suggestion was a 7mm Weatherby as is with a faster 1-8's twist.
Weatherby came through for me again!!!
Meet the latest Weatherby: 7mm Weathermark in bronze.
The fit and finish is outstanding!!
I put a Vortex Gen ll 5-25x50 in Nightforce rail and Nightforce rings.
Ordered dies from Midway USA, Redding. Will be loading the Barnes 168 LRX first. This is the bullet l really would like to use in it

How would the 1 in 8 twist affect a bullet like a 160 gr partion?

that is one sweet rifle Mike  8) I really like the spiral fluted bolts on these new Mark V's. I have always though the 7mm Wby needed a faster twist than the old 1-10, and was happy to see when they started making them with 1-8. I going to keep an eye out for your results on loads and how it shoots, I been tossing around the idea of replacing an older accumark 7mm wby sitting in the safe with a new mark V with the new 1-8" twist barrel.

That's a sweet looking set up.  Good luck with it.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.

Sweet looking rig Mike. It sure will be a good rifle for reaching out there and tagging some critters.

Congrats on your new purchase, really nice looking rifle and scope. I too am interested in knowing how you're 168 gr. Barnes hand loads progress. By coincidence I came across an article last week sometime (took me a while to go back and find it) on a fast twist bullet for 7mm made by Berger. It's the 195 gr. Extreme Outer Limits Elite Hunter. (EOL) Its an interesting write up, but the pictures of the bullet are missing in this write up. However you can click on the Home page, and then click on Hunting and it takes you to the the bullets purpose, usage, and it's construction. Anyway good luck with your new rig, and keep us posted.

The faster twist will stabilize the longer heavier bullets. The 160 partition may have been ok in the 1:10 twist, but it should be better in the 1:8.5 twist

I haven't found anything l don't like about this rifle so far.
IMO true elk rifles start in 28 caliber, with 160 grain bullets and up. With the 1:8 twist it not only will give you the velocity but should stabilize the heavier bullets. I realize many will disagree with me on that and it's ok.
I think the 7mm Weatherby with the 1:8 twist is a great all around cartridge for big game
