Last year I used one of my 257 Weatherby's with 110 gr Accubonds, a DRT. In fact I swear he feel over dead when he saw me start pulling the trigger!!! The first rifle I bought was a used custom Mauser in 270 Win that Loves 150 Partitions over IMR4350, you made a fine choice for a Deer rifle.

First rifle harvest was with a .243. After that, .264 wm, .270 Winchester, 30-06, 25-06 and 300 saum. Work on a new to me .270, new stock, duracoat finish, Leupold optics.
Hopefully be done next week.

Used the following:
243 WSSM—87 gn Hornady Interlock (son #3)
257 Wby Mag — 100 gn Barnes TSX (missed for unknown reasons)
6.5mm Creedmoor — 130 gn Swift Scirocco II
280 Rem — 150 gn Sierra Game King
7mm Rem Mag — 140 gn Sierra Game King (son #3)
7mm Wby Mag — 150 gn Swift Scirocco II
308 Win — 150 gn Winchester Power Point, 168 gn Sierra Match King (son #1 and #3)
300 Wby Mag — 180 gn Hornady Interlock by far the most accurate bullet from my favorite hunting rifle and has never failed to bring down the deer, dead right there. My buddy uses the 180 gn Hornady SSTs with his 300 Wby.

20ga slug here in IL
 ;D

my .270win loves 130gr, I tend to think that is the bullet weight to use in .270's, but to each their own, my dad did shoot a big black bear with 150s, so I think unless in a specific situation where you Need more bullet weight, the 130s are the way to go, weigh to go,lol pun.

mine loves the cheap 130 federals blue box.... but I think if I ever were to use a 270 for elk etc... I'd try a tougher 130gr bullet like a TSX or NP.

It's a toss up between the swede t3 and the 270 win Vanguard, both well very well on deer.

The last 10 years I have used two different rifles and cartridges on Whitetail Deer.  During that time period I have taken some of the best Bucks of my hunting career.

And the rifles and cartridges or calibers whatever you prefer.

1.  Muzzleloader Season:  T/C Omega .50 CAL. Muzzleloader
2. Rifle season:  Remington Model 700 XCR in 7mm Rem. Mag.

Prior to that time period:

1. Muzzleloader Season:  T/C Omega .50 CAL. Muzzleloader and a T/C Black Diamond in .50 CAL.
2. Rifle Season: Remington Model 700 XCR in the great 30.06

I have used a 30.06 in Browning Bar MK II Safari and other rifles, really and truly whats wrong with the 30.06?

I did take a Doe one time with my WIN. Model 70 in 300 WIN MAG.  I guess all that is boring, never taken a deer with any cartridge smaller than 30.06.  Upper end was .300 WIN. MAG and .50 CAL. Muzzleloader.

However I am wanting to try something different, broaden my horizons…. :D

Would love to try a left hand Weatherby in .257 Weatherby, 270 Weatherby or maybe a 7MM Weatherby.  Not sure which one I would start with. Decisions, decisions, decisions..... :-\

Now I’m hoping to add my .257 to the list this fall. Indiana and/or Mississippi.

I use my custom Mark V 270 Roy for deer of any subspecies, wild sheep and speed goats. Have used Nosler Partitions, Hornady interlocks (both 150 gr) but for the last many years Win Failsafe 140 gr (no longer made). When Win ended manufacturing I bought up enough to set me for years. GJ

My S1 Vanguard is a 270 win. and it's a tack driver with 130 gr. Superformance SST, but I decided to go with the 140 gr. Hornady BTSP that grouped right at 5/8" MOA

257 wby is my favorite whitetail gun I typically shoot 110 grain accubonds work very well here in texas.

Wife shoots 257 Roberts either 110 accubonds or 100 grain loaded scirocco's.

Kids shoot either 25-06 or 257roberts - kinda get the idea dad loves his 25's but the list gets crazy after that - you mentioned whitetail so I kept is simple! :)

6.5's we shoot from time to time generally run 130-140 grainer either accubond/partition or swift scirocco's

257 is very popular especially on this weatherby forum, own several and is my favorite caliber in several completely different guns. Don't own a 270 win but In my mainstream calibers I've always had luck with federal loaded up with nosler bullets. But 270 has several offerings in my favorite swift scirocco's. Lot of options which makes it a great choice - grab a couple boxes and see what it likes and then go get more! Happy hunting - welcome to the dark side of the force!
