The post about your favorite Weatherby cartridge got me thinking.
Why doesn't Weatherby make the 270 Mag in a less expensive rifle like the Vanguard?

Thanks folks

I believe they chambered the Vanguard in the big selling calibers.

You could rebarrel/rechamber one to a 270 Weatherby Magnum easy enough (metric threads…however).

You could get a decent used Mark V cheaper than rechambering a Vanguard.  I tend to find ammo first.  ;D

It would take next to nothing for Weatherby to have Vanguards chambered in 270 and 7mm Weatherby. I really wish they would.

The lack of volume is the key driver look at the available options they are pretty much standard caliber stuff for "main stream" drawing in those to weatherby that don't want a 1600-2200 rifle. Just my 2cents doens't mean i agree, but i'm sure they do just fine as a company. Would be cool to see a limited run but then it maybe worth buying a mark v at that point.

270 and 7mm with enough browser time can be found in decent shape for reasonable prices in mark v jap's. I have a stable of 270's i plan to hand down to my sons one day that are all pretty minty condition.

Someone wanting a solid 130 bullet gun in vandy 6.5's in prc or the fire breathing 6.5-300 sure fit the bill for allot of game.

Mark V's are really not that much more money, and you get a real Weatherby not a Howa, just get a Mark V.

here's a link to an interesting article on the 270 Wby.

My 270 WBY is a 1 in 12 twist rate. I don't feel limited by the lighter weight bullets needed with today's great choices.

Does a lesser twist rate stabilize heavier bullets?

Thanks Terry

It's been 1 in 10 for years. Yes, heavier bullets work in the newer models.

A faster twist rate stabilizes heavier bullets
