In our 300 Wby's vanguard and MKV, my powder of choice is currently H1000 with a Barnes TTSX-BT 180 grain I've backed the loads off to around 3150 fps but accuracy is 1/2 " 3 shots and consistent month after month after tuning the rifles up, glass bedding and free floated from about 3" foreward of the chambers. Both of these rifles are 24" barrels and I can get 3300 fps if I bump up the powder charges, BUT primer pockets start opening and I don't need to push them that fast anyway. Other Powders I've had good luck with are the regular IMR 7828 and the sc version, RS Magnum I didn't push as hard as I probably should have, Retumbo I needed to test more. MRP, MRP2, RL22 and RL25 & RL26 gave good velocities and decent accuracy. IMR-7828 would be my second choice as per accuracy nd good velocities. H-4831 and IMR-4350 shot very well with various 180's I just didn't get quite the velocities I am looking for. I do have some newer IMR- 7977 and IMR-8133 but haven't shot it yet, IMR- 4955 shot OK more like H-4831 loads. It's a fairly easy cartridge to load for and doesn't have a lot of bad habits, I do think once you find a good load and the right bullet performance is to stick with it and not try to get to fancy on pushing the outer limits of the cartridge. Keep the barrel clean and stock up on what ever reloading components it likes for the next round of shortages. Sometimes I get a little anal and try to see if I can improve something that really doesn't need it. If I could choose 3 powders for the 300 WBY using 150 to 200 grain bullets it would be H-1000, IMR-7828 and MRP any one of these if your rifle will shoot them is going to give you pretty good performance. There are some new powders that might be worth looking at when you get the time.
