340wby needs help
« on: January 15, 2022, 08:59:33 AM »
Is anyone getting or exceeding factory velocity with a 250gr. Cause looking at load data nothing comes near the factory loads that I can find. The numbers in the books are just about a 338win and if that's the case I should have went with that over the 340wby. Any tips or load data would be appreciated.

I only use 225grn TSX's in mine now. However I did try the 250grn TSX pushed along by 84 grains of RE19 that gave me an average velocity of 2870 fps out of my 26" Lazermark rifle.
But I found the 225grn TSX"s on top of 86 grains of RE19 and going 3050 fps would penetrate just as far, shoot flatter and were more accurate in my rifle.

Well thank you maybe I'll have to go with a lower grain but I do love a heavy bullet

Just a check with 4 reloading manuals. The 340 is 187 fps faster, and with a 250 grain bullet that is a game changer

I can also add, l have owned 4 different 338 win mag, in Winchester, Sako, Ruger, and TC barrel. None would push a 225 grain much over 2700 fps much less a 250 grain
I did try a 270 grain ELD-X in 340, that was going 2700, but wouldn’t group well

I've been getting factory velocity with loads using MRP and 7828ssc, with 250gr SGK. The SGK has been the most accurate projectile in my Accumark. I've settled on 85gr MRP @2950fps for he most accurate & consistent load. I've loaded up to 86.8gr MRP, but the ES grew and there was no consistent velocity gains or accuracy improvements. My back-up SGK load is 86.8gr 7828ssc @ 2990fps.
