Weatherby Belt Buckle

Weatherby Belt Buckle

In the 18th Edition of the Weatherby Guide (1975), there is an advertisement that shows a Weatherby belt buckle that I have only seen in this one ad and don't recall ever seeing one for sale on eBay.  Does anyone own this buckle or know anything about it?  If you own one,  a photo of the front and back would be greatly appreciated.  Apologies for the grainy image.  It's the best I can do. Many thanks!

No, I don't have one of the old ones but Weatherby has a new one on their website.  Take a look.

I have never seen that one. i have in the past owned two weatherby buckles that were very similar but oval shaped. On the back was a list of the weatherby cartridges and a weatherby cartridge that you could engrave your name. The other buckle was the same but nothing on the back. They came out around 1977 or so.

I have never seen that one before.
But if they bring it back. I would buy one.

Yes, I own an oval buckle, which was introduced in 1976.  Since the buckle in question was in the 1975 guide, I'm wondering if it was a one-off that was never released - perhaps a precursor to the oval buckle.

Great looking belt buckle. Does it have Weatherby cartridges listed on the back side like Derrill  described?

Thanks!  Yes, it does. I am the original owner.  The buckle was pre-ordered from Weatherby in late 1975 before its release in 1976.  Made by Wyler Foundry & Harness Works of "special bronze alloy", not brass.  It first appeared in the 1976 catalog.

Speaking of buckles, I do not own this one and I have only seen two or three come to market.  Apparently, it was a fairly small limited run.  It is made of sterling silver and they typically sell for around $400.

The quality and casting of these buckles greatly changed over the years.  Here are better photos of my "Special Bronze Alloy", first issue, buckle compared to the later, more common "Solid Brass" buckles that are listed on Big Muddy's eBay link.  I used one of the eBay buckles for comparison.

Note the difference in deep vs. shallow relief casting on the front...

and the significant changes on the back including the belt loop attachment.

I don't have all of the facts of the story, but a friend of mine wears a Weatherby belt buckle that Roy personally gave him.

Something about years ago my friend shot an outstanding one hole or something group with a .460 Wby, somehow the target got back to Roy and he had it on his office wall.  Then sometime lateer, my friend visited the Weatherby factory, and when he mentioned shooting that target, he was immediatley ushered up to Roy's office, and Roy gave him that buckle.

There are two modern styles currently available, but sadly (at least in my opinion) they lack the character and detail of the old ones. The old ones were "Made in USA" too.
Come and take it.
