2023 Hunting Applications

I put in for the MI Elk Lottery I have 21 Chances I went Bull only so it would be like winning the Lottery.  They give out around 200 tags. Maybe 50 for Bull only.
But after saving for 11 years of saving my bear points I applied for A Hunt this year. I'm  guaranteed A Bear License with that many points.  I have always went to the upper peninsula to bear hunt but this time I'm going to the northern lower where I deer hunt.
Who's All Applying for What and Where ?

Good luck on the draws!  I don't even need a license to hunt hogs on private property here. Any centerfire is legal, just a 5 round mag limit on semi autos. I won't use anything smaller than 6.5 CR in any case.   :)

I put in for antelope, deer, and elk in Wyoming.  We had such a brutal winter, I'll tear up the antelope tag if I draw and send in my deer tag for a sportsman's drawing in Wyoming.  There is a statewide initiative to "Let a Deer Walk" here in Wyoming where you send in a tag for a drawing to win prizes in a pool of ~ $100K.  Some pretty cool prizes and a good conservation effort.

I hope to draw the elk tag...but who knows.  I can always hunt in a general area for elk...I have a pretty good spot.

Ya JK that was brutal out there. Never seen anything like it. I watched a segment of a truck driver going right thru a large heard of pronghorn. Nothing he could do. I don't know how many he killed but it was a crazy high number. It will take A while to bring back there numbers I'm sure.

Applied for a nonresident elk tag in Wyoming, other than than just Antelope and Deer doe tags locally. The big hunt will be the Wyoming elk tag. Will pick up a bear tag to go with it.
Than the usual upland hunts, Montana, Kansas, Colorado, and hopefully Arizona this year.
Been trying to get to Arizona for a couple years now, hopefully l can get there this year

It will be YEARS before the antelope and deer populations recover in Wyoming.  Most of the resident hunters I've spoken with in Wyoming aren't going after antelope and deer.  They're applying for and buying tags, but either tearing them up or putting in for the prize drawing.

Overall, this past winter was the worst I can recall...

Put in for elk & muledeer for muzzleloader in Colorado since Idaho is now making it nearly impossible to get any tags there. I have 2 points for each so we'll see how it goes. If I don't draw either tag I'll buy an over the counter bow tag.

Drew a muzzleloader elk tag, either sex, in Colorado for the middle of September. Was turned down for mule deer but now have 3 points for them. Hunting unit 86, I took a 5x5 there many years ago. Hoping the locals there don't cut our tents up again.

I drew a Minnesota Black Bear tag starting September 1 and a late season December  Colorado plains buck deer tag.

I entered a mule deer draw with some buddies that have done so in AZ for the past couple of years, i always had conflict with the girls showing livestock.

They say the quail hunting is the most fun! But I think the unit they've drawn in isn't the most sought after which is probably why they drew 2 out of 2 years. We will hope for better draws and maybe one day we slip into the promise land of giants! :)

Other than that I have a Missouri rifle deer hunt (no draw - outfitter over the counter deal) i've been looking forward too for over a year with my brother. Outfitter seems like an awesome dude, farmer/rancher family man they shoot some good to great deer.

I'm staying local this year, and didn't apply for my usual SD deer tags.  I'm planning on retiring next Mar, and I need to save up my days off (leave).  It will take 3-6 months to get my first retirement check.  >:(  It's great working for the government.   ;D

Our draw is out and I didn't get a tag for anything.

Starting to get calls to book the houses for elk hunters.
