Drew a muzzleloader elk tag, either sex, in Colorado for the middle of September. Was turned down for mule deer but now have 3 points for them. Hunting unit 86, I took a 5x5 there many years ago. Hoping the locals there don't cut our tents up again.

        Congrats on drawing an elk tag. Using the same muzzleloader as on the last hunt, or have you upgraded your battery?

Just sold two of my 8 farms.The 2 best whitetail hunting spots I got.I think I'll be alright.Been building up some pretty good blood lines at a couple other places.Will be hunting out of my white,diesel,portable blind as always.We'll see how it goes.

Just turned 60 and I'm trying to get my retirement affairs in order over the next few years.Selling those two places and carrying the note for the buyers is part of it.Will probably sell a couple more before I get to the income level that I think I'll need.Very hard to do guys.One of the places I've owned for 25 years and my Son shot his first deer there.

I didn’t draw squat, but luckily Wyoming has the general elk tag and we have a great hunting spot.

Retirement comes with some life changing decisions. Some easy and some not easy at all. For me it was all most like starting over. In the end the best decision l have ever made.

In Montana's special drawings, I got my 35th Unsuccessful notice for Moose, 40th Unsuccessful notice for Bighorn sheep, and my 45th Unsuccessful notice for a Mountain goat tag.  I'm trying for a world record of unsuccessful applications there.

I put in for a different Pronghorn unit this year and those results don't come out until mid-August.

I shot a couple of black bears in the '70s so I don't have any interest on shooting any more of them.

I did buy general Montana Deer and Elk tags, and I'm booked for an Alberta Moose hunt in September, so I should be able to keep my freezers full this year.

     I can't use my Maryland muzzleloader due to it having a scope, I have one I used before in Colorado, it's also a 50 caliber CVA Optima Elite with a 29" barrel. I did upgrade it with a Williams sight with rear peep and front crosshair sight.

Unit 86 has some steep country. Big mule deer too. Good luck

Yes it is steep, I used to hunt there a good bit, killed my first bull elk there and have seen some beautiful mule deer there. Seems like every time I had an elk tag I'd see giant mule deer so the next year I'd get a mule deer tag and have great bulls walk 40 yards from me. One year I was able to get both tags and saw NOTHING. That's hunting.

I got drawn for  Arizona muzzle loader cow elk  and AZ general rifle deer this year I don't know the unit yet just that the credit card got dinged will know probably next week.   I will be hunting within a mile or so from my home  for elk which I really don't want to (strictly a meat hunt),  actually it's a ham (handgun, archery, muzzle loader) hunt so   I can use  a handgun (maybe a TC contender in 35 remington,  super 14 ) if I don't care for the new muzzleloader,  and after last years fiasco with my other muzzleloader using # 11 caps that didn't ignite the powder,   I went out and bought a CVA Aura LRX 50 cal, 30" Begara barrel and added vari flame breech plug using large rifle / mag primers.  still haven't shot it yet been doing other things and just haven't got around to it.  suppose to be 300 to 400 yd rifle in  the right hands, loads, and conditions, we will see.  mounted  a nikon 4 x 12 bdc scope   I had laying around.  most likely use PR bullets out of Canada or Hornady sst's  I don't know yet until I figure a load out.  my other M/L will shoot PR dead center   boat tails with sabot  in 44/300 grain in 50 Cal  very accurate and higher B/C ,  I really should   order some more to keep on hand.

No Elk tag but that was not expected.
But I did draw my bear tag. Baiting is allowed Aug 8th fir the Sept 9th opener.
I hope to make my first kill with a Weatherby
I will use my 300 Mark V SS with 180 gr Trophy Bonded Tip Bear Claws.
