Return of Remington 700s
« on: August 09, 2023, 12:52:04 PM »
I read in an industry magazine that Remington (Ruger) 700s will have Timney triggers. Putting quality, non OEM triggers in factory rifles is nothing new. What I think it shows is the fact that the restoration of the 700 line is addressing the trigger issue that tragically haunted Remington 700s, even though you or I could have had a great 700 with no problems.
This by no means puts a new 700 on my radar. I gotta give Ruger a thumbs up for trying to make a better product. Sales will tell if buyers are taking in the new 700s. Yes, experiences from the field will do the same.

Resurection, I hope!  Ruger prices on the new Marlins is a huge turn off! Good info, thanks!

I could be way off here, but I do not  believe Ruger has anything to do with the latest Remington Arms Company? They did buy Marlin from them in all the bankruptcy mess they went through but I believe actual Remington Arms was bought by a group that I had never heard of and also I was under the impression that Remington Ammunition is a completely separate company from what I know, please feel free to correct me if wrong on any of this?

A quick search says Remarms owned by Vista outdoors is making the rifles. No mention of any Ruger involvement!

Yep!  They also own Federal and CCI, Bushnell, among others

They owned Savage but sold it off a couple year ago.

Friend of mine that works for Vista says they do not own RemArms.  Vista has the right to the name and there is an agreement to let RemArms use it.

Looks like I was wrong about Ruger owning Remington. That doesn't change the fact the trigger issue that plagued the 700s, right or wrong, is getting a very good solution.
A few of my rifles have Timney triggers. A few have have triggers that are just as good as the Timney and at a lower price. Again, the market decides what is good and what is not. If someone is looking to upgrade to a better trigger, get out the $$ and you'll really, really get what you pay for. I am one of the few that likes the 2-stage factory trigger on the Vanguards. Those triggers are consistent, cost less than a Timney (single stage) and for me, the Vanguard trigger is great. I also shot a lot of military rifles with relatively hard and inconsistent triggers. The key to it is practice. Even with a less-than-great trigger the rifleman can deliver accurate fire and in competition shooting do very well also.

The options list for the 700 is great. For that money,I would buy a Vanguard or a Savage first.
