After years of using my 257 Weatherby, I decided to pick up and try out a new Backcountry Ti 2.0 in 6.5-300 with Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x down in North Carolina.
Weather was in low 30s at daybreak and mid 50s by days end.
My 55th consecutive year hunting with my dad, 4th with my 16 year old son and 36th with my younger brother.

I had just finished setting up a couple of shooting “sticks” for my dad and turned to see a spot in the treeline that had a new “lump” where a hole had been before.
I knew that spot was around 300 yards away (289 yards away according to my trusty rangefinder, measured after the shot - I don’t have time for that before).
I quickly took a look through the binocs and saw a fair set of antlers and that his left side was quartering towards me.
The 127grain LRX entered just in front of his left shoulder and exited his right side just past his diaphragm.
Here’s a sapling that was near his right side when the shot hit.

Took a leap and that was it.
