A cartridge you'd make for weatherby
« on: January 05, 2024, 04:15:54 AM »
I miss the days of weatherby using the shoulder and belt. If you guys could make a new weatherby cartridge what would it be? I would make a 27x300 weatherby with a faster twist barrel so you could shoot a 170gr .277 going real fast. I'm excited to see what you come up with.

I also miss those days. I would make a 7mm-378 Wby and chamber it in Mark V rifles with sporter and deluxe wood stock options; 26" barrel. High gloss blueing or matte finish both an option. That would be the king of commercial 7mms.

Weatherby was actually working on a 7-378 while they were in California. Unfortunately they ran into some problems and canceled the project  according to a couple employees I talked to at Reeds Gun Fair. If they ever offer one, it will be my next rifle!

I'd still go for a 6mm RPM with a fast twist rate!

I had a 7mm/378 and it was terrible. You burn way more powder and not a big increase in speed.

The 7x300 makes more sense.

Which is essentially the ballistic twin of the 7mm STW...

I think we’ve pushed the limits of utility with 7mm magnum speeds. The 7 STW and 7 RUM are known to be pretty finicky and erratic in terms of performance on game.

Pretty bad when I can’t dream up a useful cartridge suggestion. There are just so many available now…

Kinda my take on it and have so many speed demons.

240-257-7mmwby and stw - 6.5/300 (there's a firecracker I love) but similar velocities to a 270bee

I love the small bores here in texas don't need much beyond a good ole 100 something ish grain bullet in a hot 25 caliber, but I love all these listed above and even beyond which I have others.

Maybe so... but I'd still buy or build one and play with it just because I like rifles. :)

I'm with ya on that but here in the past few years, I've been enjoying the heavier calibers and bullets just because of my personal experiences with the results... kinda like Roy Weatherby's original MO being cleaner kills on game.

I'd like to know how fast a 27x300wby would go it would definitely be the fastest 277 caliber.

I like the idea of a hot rod 270, not many out there. It just might sell like hot cakes.
