Reading the current post about old Weatherby belt buckles had me thinking back to other bygone Weatherby stuff like their line of scopes. Here's a quick rundown of them - who built them and when:

Mark XXI  scopes    Manufacturer: Asia optical (Japan)    1964-1989

Sightmaster spotting scope    Manufacturer:  Asia optical (Japan)
20X-45X: 1972-1982
20x-60x:1983-1989

Imperial scopes    Manufacturer: Hertel & Reuss,  (West Germany)    1954-1973

Premier scopes    Manufacturer: Asia Optical (Japan)    1973-1982

Supreme scopes    Manufacturer: Asia Optical (Japan)    1983-1994

I have an Imperial on my Weatherby FN Mauser .300 Weatherby Magnum.

They were good scopes in their day, but optics quality advance quickly.

My 1959 MKV deluxe came with a 2-7 weatherby scope.  Still have it.  Hunted with it for about 15 years before I retired it.

And I was under the impression that early Weatherby scopes were made by Tasco. That was when they built real scopes with glass lenses and all.
