Anyone bought one of the 307's?
« on: March 24, 2024, 08:10:52 AM »
I know already here they may not be popular but let me start by saying yes, I already own 3 MK5 Deluxe's and also a Vanguard Sporter and I do love me some blued steel and walnut.

I ordered the 307 MeatEater edition in .257 Weatherby Mag to use as an all around do most everything rifle. I figured it would give an excuse to get a caliber I have been wanting and also get Weatherby's 3rd action at the same time in a rifle that I can use hard in the elements where I would not want to bring my other rifles out in.

I have a Zeiss Conquest V4 6x24x50mm I'm going to mount on it with a set of Warne Mountain Tech rings. Anyone know if I should use the low or medium height rings on this setup that may have something similar?

The 50mm part says mediums may work. Lows probably won't. JMO!  I have mounted a few 50mm scopes and lows never worked for me, but not on this rifle. I do like the Warne rings!  :)

Thank you, I'll go with the mediums to play it safe. Those Warne Mountain Techs in bronze seem like a perfect match for that rife for sure.

Ya zeiss tend to be longer scopes that will carry over the crown, but mediums seem to be the safe play and will be low enough in most cases for those who like a lower set. That's my preference for hunting also keep them as low as i can;

257 should be a shooter;

I have noticed that with Zeiss as well and Schmidt & Bender, they even with a larger objective diameter such as 50mm don't look gaudy with their tube diameter and length unlike some of the others. Better proportioned I guess one could say.

Yeah I bought one in 7mm Rem Mag. I have a 56mm objective scope mounted on it, used medium rings and there’s about a quarter inch between the bottom of the scope and the barrel (Vortex Pro Series Rings)

This makes me think about just ordering the low rings to start with. I think with a 50mm and the length the Zeiss is it will work with minimal gap,

Not all rings are the same height for what each manufacturer call low, medium or high.   :)

a few years ago, I bought some modeling clay to try and figure out ring height dilemmas like this.  it works-ish but if you are marginally close on making contact somewhere, I would suggest going up one height.

Too low may make loading and unloading difficult as well.
