Mark V Trigger adjustment

Mark V Trigger adjustment

I have a Weatherby Mark V, made in 1994 by Howa.  The rifle has been shot very few times.  When using the adjustment screw just in front of the trigger, I have been able to adjust it from 5# 4 oz. down to 4# 12 oz.  That is with the adjustment screw backed out of the trigger.  Is it possible that the spring is stuck in the compressed position and just does respond to the relief of pressure?  I am lost and looking to learn.

I have successfully adjusted Remington 700 triggers, Winchester model 70 triggers and Ruger Model 77 triggers and have learned when to go to professionals.  I think I am there on this trigger but am looking for any advice anyone is willing to offer.

TTT I'm having the same problem. Are we sure a Triggertech won't fit in a Japanese Mark V?

Hey guys, I found my solution on a different Weatherby site, years ago (before Weatherby changed triggers). Punch in, Weatherby.dk, then a selection will pop up to go to that forum. The front page will pop up and the first article will be, "How to MOD your Mark V trigger." Step by step instructions you can take to your favorite professional gunsmith. God bless and be safe, it doesn't take much to get the trigger pull to unsafe, dangerously low, levels. Gunsmiths should have the proper tools to get it safely to however low you want the pull. Those Weatherby triggers are top notch!

Thanks! I appreciate it. I might give it a go next weekend.

I tried the mod posted by 11charlie just now. The trigger definitely feels better. In addition to the coils being cut I also lightly polished the sear and the bore where the sear spring with the disc rides as it had radial machine marks. I'll leave it like this and see how it does at the range. I'm thinking the other 2 springs could be slightly lightened as well.

Glad that worked for you Chris. There is quite the range of adjustment available in those triggers. God bless you with much success in the field!
