so my encore was a 270 win that i had rechambered to 270 bee.

its a 7 twist with .600" freebore, 27" barrel.

my loads are between 3.47" and 3.50" coal.

i will be shooting at 215 yards this winter. the barrel is built to shoot 165 to 175 grain bullets, BUT at this short range i figure i will use either my 150ABLR or 140 SST. i have range data for the albr.

what i need is a HOT load for a typical 270 BEE using a 140 SST. the reason is knocking the life out of the bucks at 215.

so for reference i use 75 grains of retumbo and 165 ABLR shooting at 3150. i really want faster and flatter loads for 215 short range.

powders i have are retumbo,h1000,magnum, 760, aa4350,24n41 etc.

the freebore is excessive with anything shorter than the 140 SST. i typically spec caliber and a half freebore for my custom barrels. my bullets touch up at 3.89" so 3.47 to 3.5" coal match my specs.

thanks

That load would be plenty flat for a 215 yard shot.Just guessing,and someone here could be more specific,but sighted in for an inch high at 100 would probably not be more than an inch low at 215 yards.In your line of sight the bullet path would go slightly over an inch high on the way downrange and maybe be an inch low at 215.Probably could get by with being only 3/4 of an inch high at 100 yards.

So, that 165 load is for long range, and is not using the 270 bee performance at 215 yards. i want to hit the buck and knock the life out of it without too much meat damage.

i DID this rechamber for extreme ranges, but after using quick target i see that a 140 or 150 is reaching my goal for 215 yards and shoots crazy flat.

so far, this chamber uses 1 to 2 grains more powder without pressure signs, but i havent pushed it yet.

140 to 165gr aint gonna make a bit of difference to any buck at 215 yards.The difference in the ark of the bullet would be so minute that too would not make a difference.

I shoot deer with a 130 grain scirocco running north of 3400fps out of the muzzle in a 24" rifle and it delivers with authority. Your twist might not shoot lighter bullets as well as heavies, but either way as has been mentioned it will still be extremely fast and deliver one hell of a punch.

I shoot 130's out of my 6.5-300 similar results, hit's light lightning;
