He is hunting pheasants today. He had a hard time loading his shotgun. Pheasants are a Chinese bird that were imported years ago.

When I was but a wee lad I enjoyed diet enhanced with rabbit and pheasant which my uncle provided by grabbing his shotgun after high school classes ended.

Roast Pheasant is delicious. I used to hunt them after school and on Saturdays with my Dad.
Every Thanksgiving we would go rabbit, Quail and Pheasant hunting and come home to a hot roast turkey dinner. It was my job to clean the days kill before dinner.
Now the birds are all gone thanks to no till farming and herbicides. The loss of habitat and housing developments have just about ruined all the hunting in my area and what few farms that are left won't let you hunt do to liability.

The greatest benefit an upland bird can have, such as ring neck pheasant or quail, is great habitat. Favorable weather for hatching chicks is important and a drought is a hard hit on habitat and chicks.
