new to me 257 and 92 grain hammers
« on: October 27, 2024, 12:16:05 PM »
My brother had like 5 rounds of this stuff left over after he sold his 257 (terrible decision by the way but he's a can man - there is such a thing as too sexy for him) but anyway - i recently acquired yet another 257, well it's for the wife it's right handed. The gun was custom redon over a standard mark v action new barrel job and oil finished stock made to look like a safari. Really cool i'll have to get better pics of the rifle, but i went and check it today and tried out the hammers. Not to shabby now i have to order some to be here before next weekend for opener! LOL Should be a hammer (pun intended) for her,

Decent group. Just a couple clicks down and right and you're golden.
Come and take it.

Several people have said Hammers are the most accurate bullet they’ve tested. I have tested them with a 308 Win and I’m completely sold on them. (I have a ton of other bullets so I don’t need to stock up on Hammers.)  A friend uses 236 grain Hammers with his 338-378 Wby and 6.5-300 Wby.

Great shooting by the way.

When l retired a bought what l thought would be a live time supply of Barnes, but the Hammers look like a good bullet to try.
Yes better photos of that rifle please

Yes, better pictures of the rifle.  Looks like you have a deadly whitetail deer combo.  BTW, a red recoil pad would complete the Safari look.   ;D

Mike i hear ya i was same way with scirocco's which the point of impact is like a half inch lower than these. That's a fine idea oscar, will debate that option for post season!

Here's some pics;

If i can get her up our season begins this weekend I have a solid 8 that's been coming into our field area my prefered location I'd love to see her take him with this rifle. Heavy little recoil, gets the cool factor for hunting IMO only reason I grabbed it - like I needed another 257. What the heck only live once right;

I bought 3 boxes of the 92 gr hammers for my Arroyo RC and it loves them, hopefully I will get a chance to try them on a whitetail on November 9th here in Minnesota. They definitely shoot well out it.

 Nice looking rifle, hope she gets a chance to take a deer with it.

Mulie my only couple of expriences with swaps have been a mark v 300 to 7stw at bartlien that was a 30" heavy CT about $800 out the door shipped back to me turnkey deal.

Another was pac-nor ruger 1 ran about the same with the blue finish. Both scenarios I had more affordable and more expensive options seems like.

This particular rifle was done by someone else, my guess it wasn't cheap with sights and finish - just depends on what all your looking for. Many of them have websites you can go on surf and ask questions - several others the two i mentioned I would recommend, customer service was easy to deal with. Looking to have one of my southpaw rifles taken to a 220 swift, prob do that in the off season i've discussed with pac-nor. Like anything else the most customized you get it the more it will run. Just a vanilla SS barrel with standard twists aren't going to be terrible. Someone else may chime in, that's just my experiences.

Beautiful timber on that rifle!  Yes, a NECG red pad would definitely complete that African look.   ;D

Thanks boys - I've never been a big iron sight guy the idea of the safari is cool. The little vx3 scope is 14x sharp duplex goes well with the rifle.

Your tempting me oscar that would look cool - i have a ruger 1 257 custom that has that red pad you mention on some deep wood - it's really cool. I'm crazy enough to do it - :)
