Deer Season

Deer Season
« on: October 28, 2024, 07:24:55 AM »
Here in Texas, rifle season opens this coming Saturday morning. The weather where I will be hunting is shows rain and temps in the 70s. Who all else is going out to start their deer (whitetail or otherwise) seasons soon?

Good luck to all of you who will be heading out for the first time this season. It's always a special time. We have 10 weekends this year here in Texas so I hope to get some decent trips out there between now and then.

Here in GA, rifle season started on 19 Oct.  Unfortunately, my friend's in-laws sold their property where we used to hunt, and now I don't have a place to hunt.  Unless I decide to go into public land. Weather has been ok, low 50s at dawn, and in the mid 70s to low 80s during the day.  Good luck to ya.

My friend in Maryland lost his lease to the people selling it to a deveolpment. Deer hunting here is way too expensive. You would need a flat bottomed boat to hunt public property. I'll wait till deer season is over and hunt hogs.  :)

Heading out in the morning as well JW, I have a good buck i've had my eye on for the wife. She's decided to be a trooper and head out with me in the morning - sure hope he shows! LOL she usually only goes evening hunts, which we've seen him both morning and evenings - gonna play day 1 hard see if he slips up and we will let the 257 eat!

I'll probably leave the house about 15 before daylight and get on property. Then ease around real slow  just as it gets light enough to see a quarter mile or so.Opening morning they are not shy of being seen by the white diesel portable blind.

I got one Saturday morning hunt in last weekend. Saw 3-4 deer. Couple of doe. Two bucks, one young and one semi-mature but nothing special. The rain moved in on us in the afternoon and it rained throughout the night and into the morning. We needed the rain but the timing could have been better. It's raining again today and into tomorrow so I'm not going back out this weekend. I don't usually enjoy deer hunting in the rain and mud. Temps have been very mild too but I'm not complaining. Gonna try and get back out there at least once between now and Thanksgiving but not sure when that will be yet. Might have to sneak out there during the work week.
