Interesting video on shot placement

I would normally aim lower (heart/lung), but this is interesting.

The shots taken on the video seem to be full daylight and all broad side shots. How lucky to sell his idea!  ;D

Iv’e read about this before and thought it would be worth a try just to see what results I got for myself. I copied the article, but I’m not sure where I saved it. The only negative to that aim point might be the loss of meat. On the outdoor hunting shows, a lot of the shots that are DRT are high shoulder shots.

Addendum: To clarify, I haven’t tried that aim point on a game animal yet.

I have used the high shoulder shot a lot. I have found if you aim for the bottom front edge of the shoulder blade where the spine dips down. It is instant lights out. Also fairly easy to high front angles. Not just broadside

Shot a moose last year at appx 300 yds. The way it was placed ( 45 degree north bound ) I couldn't get a decent shot at the vitals. Put the cross hair on the hump and came down appx 12" where I believe it would be according to the video. One shot and dropped like a bag of potatoes. Not much meat loss. JME ( 300 win mag /175 LRX)

We have been doing this for years,   I normally will aim for a Heart / Lung shot not as much meat damage,  with a couple exceptions I will aim for a shoulder,   really long shots , and shot where the animal will drop down a canyon where I don't want to go haul them out and easier to find.  Where I do have an issue is bullet selection when hunting Elk I've had bullets blow up on the shoulder and not penetrate  and off to the races, so if you are going to intentionally hit a shoulder on a big animal make sure the bullet will go thru.

I've never shot a deer with a high shoulder shot, always heart lung.  However, when you to Africa, the PH will tell you to shoot the animals on the shoulder.  Also, their anatomy is a bit different than our North American animals.  Something you have to think when hunting in Africa.

I use the shoulder shot every chance I can. I like to anchor them with the first shot in case they run off somewhere where I may not be able to get to them. Plus, when hunting dangerous game, it is a good shot so as it slows them down and can prevent a charge.

I have dropped deer with high shoulder shots and heart-lung shots. I cannot say I ever tried for a shoulder shot. The deer have fallen fast with either hit. A couple of times the bullet deflected up from a shoulder and destroyed thoracic vertebrae. Those deer folded their legs and hit the ground belly first.

I've been using that high shoulder shot for many years now and those deer all dropped in their tracks. The spine is directly behind that high shoulder, you hit the spine, they're down.
I love the smell of deer guts in the morning, it smells like...VICTORY!
