Why not the 7mm wby?

Why not the 7mm wby?
« on: November 01, 2024, 11:47:55 AM »
Why doesn’t the Weatherby “custom” shop offer the 7mm wby in the other Mark V options? Example the back country line? Recently I’ve been giving this cartridge a hard look and just wonder why it can’t be custom ordered in what you want. Outside Weatherby sure. But I don’t want to pay huge $$$ for a smaller shop to build me one when Weatherby has all the components to do it there. Any thoughts? I am considering the live wild model when the time comes to buy one.

For years I've been saying they should give it a try in the Vanguard line with a 26" barrel and faster twist.. I've always felt the the 7mm Weatherby mag is the all round best 7mm mag made. Seems the company has not much love for the round. JMO

Seems they only offer that in accumark and apex as customs.

Seems the market is dictating rather than the company IMO - 7mm wby maybe the most underrated of the wby cartridges. With new emphasis on twists and heavy bullets the wby and even the stw seem to be loosing market desire. If a man wanted a deal on a used wby in 7mm they can be found - have several and all shoot extremely well as well as some stw's. Big fan of both have enough guns and ammo to last two lifetimes with them.

I agree with your guys comments. From what I can find it seems to be the best choice for the 7mm mags. It should be offered in the Vanguard lineup. It wouldnt take much to breathe some life into this round again. Offer it in more models, change the twist to 1:9, 1:8.5 or so. No reason it can’t be done.

ya not disagreeing at all, just stating what i've observed. Seems allot have died at the hands of the competition with the new kids. I'm all for it -

i made a 7stw with 1.85 twist she's a big heavy girl but throws the 195's like darts! My 7wby's fling 160's just fine and not much i can't or wont shoot with them when duty calls.

The fact that wby is making the BC models and others in the prc's shows they are making rifles based on demand and the demand is real love it or hate it. I wish they would have come out with an RPM suited for heavies myself, or maybe not i have enough rifles! LOL

Bond,James Bond! The difference between the 7mm and the 270 is .007". A company has to go with what sells.  ;D

I get it they’re  concentrating on what sells. But at least make your rifles available to your cartridges. Regardless of how popular they are. At least make it a special order item. Hence the “custom” shop.

My 264x257 Wby is about to be turned into a 7mm Wby.  I loved playing with the 6.5 and it's deadly on deer but it is a throat eater.  That 7 Wby should do me from now on.  It's a fantastic round.

I have settled on a .257 and a 7mm Weatherby’s. If l need more bullet weight than the 257 has l use the 168 LRX in the 7mm. Anything in NA

A gunsmith made me a 7mm Weatherby Magnum. The rifle is lighter than I expected, mostly due to the slightly thinner barrel than I thought I was getting. For accuracy, this thing is damn fine and for velocity it is a screamer. Put the two together and it is a fine hunting rifle. It likes my handloaded 150 grain Swift Scoricco IIs.
Bill Hober, owner of Swift Bullets, told me he thinks the 7mm Weatherby is the most underrated cartridge in North America and all the North American big game he has taken was with his 7mm Weatherby.
Dave Petzal of Field & Stream magazine likes it too.

I shot a spike elk at 650 yards, it dropped like a rock. I use 160 grain Nosler Accubond bullets in my 7mm.
