There are many options available. Personally I have used foam plugs but some better options would some form of electronic protection that allows normal hearing and conversation but blocks out anything over 100 db. Years ago as a young recruit in the Air Force I was sent to Camp Perry to score targets for the National Matches. I took the advice from an old Marine Gunny who told me to get some ear plugs. i got a pair of Lee Sonic I think they were called. One solid week at the firing line behind rifle and pistol shooting would be enough to cause severe hearing loss. The military didn't recommend or supply anything.
Your best bet would be to go try out several types at your local gun shop, Cabelas
Bass Pro Shop or whatever and try to find what works best for you.
