I believe the Accubrake reduces the kick of the 300 mag by 41%

Also, the more a cartridge is over bore capacity,the better the brake works.

Compared to the M 70 Winchester my first .300 Weatherby was chambered in, the Mk V recoil is like a kiss from mama. ;D

Just the stock style difference takes a lot out of it

Plus the MK V is a bit heavier and has a much better recoil pad.

Interesting topic "felt" recoil - I have standard deluxe 24" rifles in 300 and 340. I know the science isn't behind this one, but a 200 grain bullet fired from my 300 is noticeably different (more in my opinion) than my 340 shooting 250's. 300 appears "snappy" - both incredibly accurate the 340 just a tad better and one of my favorites. That said recently picked up a 300 custom LH with a brake while I do not care for them the rifle was fitted with one and the recoil reduction is significant. Just dont "ever" forget to wear your hearing protection;

I think a lot of perception of recoil has to do with body type. I am a slender 5'10 160 lb and I can roll with the recoil. A good friend who goes 6' 0 and 220 finds the same rifle and load harsh. He has more upper body mass resistant to "rolling with the punch" so to speak.
