Replacement stocks from the Custom Shop?
« on: October 23, 2007, 07:23:38 PM »
Hi all,

I decided a few years back that I wanted a Weatherby MkV. Well, I have two of them now (.300 WBY mag), and I think it's time to start emptying my wallet customizing them a little more. A new stock is a good place to start...

I called Weatherby, and the girl I spoke to said that if I bought a replacement stock (~500$) from them, I would have no choice at all over the grain pattern, etc. Does the Custom Shop offer hand picking stocks based on grain pattern etc? Optionally, does anyone know a non-gunbroker or eBay source of used stocks?

Accurate Innovations does replacement stocks and you can pick the grade of wood.  They are probably expensive too but they do have custom stocks.  I don't know if they allow hand picking grain patterns but you could call.  http://www.accurateinnovations.com/

www.gunsamerica.com sometimes has some used stocks on it.  Hope this helps

have you tried a local weatherby dealer thats where i got mine and only paid $325 for the accugaurd in dark timber camo because a dealer can get better deals than if you go straight to weatherby and the reason they price high at the custom shop is to protect the dealers. a lot of companies do that

       hope  this helps

The comments about Midway USA purchase of Bell & Carlson stocks are not quite correct. Up until very recently, most of the Weatherby camo pattern B&C stocks sold by Weatherby were exclusives made by B&C only for Weatherby, and were NOT available elsewhere.  An example was the Dark Timber, available only through Weatherby or a Weatherby dealer.

While B&C now offers all the Weatherby colors to anyone, it is difficult to find Mark V replacement B&C stocks from anyone other than Weatherby or an authorized dealer.  This might be on purpose.  The Medalist model which Weathery uses is the most expensive of the B&C offerings, and the less expensive Carbelite is a bigger seller.  The Carbelite does not have the classic Weatherby cheekpiece, and although offered for the Mark V, it is rarely carried by distributors for that reason.

Vanguard B&C replacements are offered through Cabelas and Brownells, but you'll have a hard time finding a Mark V model from anyone other than Weatherby.   In addition, the one internet distributor with Mark V Medalist stocks, had a limited selection of colors, action type (9lug/6lug) and barrel contour.

In addition, it appears that ALL of the B&C Weatherby stocks have been closed out by Midway USA.

You can get just about anything made by B&C for a Mark V (6- or 9-lug) from www.lockstock.com starting around $225 for the medalist line.  They even offer the Weatherby style stock for long action Remington 700's in this same style stock.  They have a huge variety of B&C stocks, and also offer options like custom length of pull, dura-maxx coating, and other production-custom option stuff.  The wait time is listed as 4-6wks, and I suspect they are right in line, as I've heard from a few folks who ordered through them.  If you like B&C, they're worth a look.

As for Accurate Innovations, they make some beautiful stuff, but nothing in the classic Weatherby style with the castoff in the buttstock and such.  Great stocks, but they're way more expensive that buying factory replacements, I think.  Of course, you get a wood stock with the aluminum bedding block, so maybe it's worth it.

I suspect if you call the custom shop, money talks, and they can get you something you'll like.  The other side to that is that it might be fun to order a stock sight unseen and then it's like Santa came when you open it.

Looks like you want a custom wood stock.  You could buy a blank of your choosing and store it properly while saving additional money for the custom stock builder.

LOL

You guys brought back to life a thread from 2007, from a guy who only posted once, and never replied here or anywhere else!!!!!

I thought it was odd a guy has 1 post, joined in 2007 then realized he posted this in 2007......

Anyway, I can't imagine, after actually going there today ( Paso Robles) and dropping off my MkV that any Gal would not mention the custom shop will build you ANY stock you want,....but maybe more than the $500 he listed......
