I look forward to members of this group that have a lot more experience with Weatherby rifles (especially early Weatherby rifles) than I do to shed some light on what I have.
From the research I’ve done I have a:
1) 1959-60 Weatherby Mark V in 300 WBY MAG, that happens to be left handed. SN 27408. 24” barrel, no Timkin mark, it is however chrome lined but does not say so, says “made in Germany “ on right side.
2) Barrel “roll stamp” which is on the left side (do to being LH model) seems to have been re-stamped due to, either head spacing issue or just a plain esthetic mistake (ending-up half covered by the stock). The new stamping aligns perfect with the stock and the serial number on the receiver.
3) the witness mark under the barrel does not line up with the mark on the receiver. The marks however would line up if you used the old (very faint) roll markings.
I would appreciate your thoughts and views on what happened here back in 1959 or 1960.
Kind of neat if I may say so myself.
All the best
Knuck.
