Told a friend of mine and some guys at the store today that I was going to go shoot a turkey after work in my white t-shirt and blue jeans. I left work at 6:35pm and was taking pics of a dead bird at 7pm. He isnt that great of a bird, but he was the biggest of the 3 that came in to my calls. He was also the first one to poke his head up. Jake, 20lb, nubs for spurs and a 5" beard.

Doc:  Any bird just like elk is a good.  I have a question a couple years ago because you are way more into turkey hunting than I am.  My son was watching a friend kill a Jake and another couple of Jakes came in and attacked the dead bird, and I can't figure out why ?  This also happened  to another friend.  Ron

I'm getting anxious hearing all these turkey hunting stories. I have to wait until the 30th for the season to open up in PA. Congrats Doc!

Ron: As far as I know and can figure, when the bird starts flopping, the other birds take it as a fight. They run in and want to fight too. It doesnt happen only with jakes, toms will do it also. It can make for a good hunt if there is more than one hunter. You can kill a turkey and then start doing a fighting purr and the others birds will come back to join the fight.

Doc :  Thanks that makes sense.  I am one of these that jumps right up and holds the bird on the ground  from flopping around too much.  Mainly because that's what my turkey hunting buddy does, steps on the neck and holds the wings and legs to not tear up the wings too bad.  I think he does it more for hunters if they want to get them mounted.   I just watch for the spurs when I grab the legs.   Ron
