A little over a month ago I sent my Leupold VX3 4.5-14 back to Leupold to get M1 turrets and custom dials installed. I received my scope back yesterday, mounted it again and took it out to the range to get it dialed back in. Its zeroed at 200 yds. where my dials zero starts. I didnt get to shoot it any farther to try out the drop compensation since the range only has 200 yd targets, will have to wait for that till I get out to the pasture. Thought I would share some pictures of how it turned out. Troy

Looks like a nice set up Troy.I sure don't know much about how this works.I am supposing they etch the glass for different distances, how many yards out do the etchings go,if that is how they do it?

Roger the turret caps are laser engraved, I gave Leupold my ballistic data and they custom engraved the caps to match my load. The elevation goes out to 1350 yds, like I'll ever use that. I'll have to do some research on the windage dial, not exactly sure how to adjust it according to cross wind speed. I also recieved a set of generic caps in case I wanna change my load and adjust it to those caps.

Plain CDS dials are 59.99 but M1 Dials I am sure are more and Leupold CS can give you exact price if you know what you want! Free call! They only can fit them to certain models so you would need to call and get a RA# anyway before ya shipped anything back!

golfer: the scope was a standard VX-3 4.5-14X40 LR. The LR model is a 30mm tube with side paralax adjustment. I had M-1 style turrets installed, which require the 30mm tube. Having the turrets installed, elevation and windage, custom engraved turrets for my load, and shipping was $240 and some change.
Thanks for the compliments guys, Im really liking this rifle/ scope combo so far. This Accumark is a tack driver with these 140gr. accubonds. I'd like to do something to lighten the trigger maybe about 1lb. not sure exactly what I'll do yet. Hopefully soon I'll get out where I can extend my range and practice with the drop compenstaion. I had my first long range test today with this setup, and needless to say I was very pleased. I shot a group at 100 yds to check the rifle and make a couple fouling shot. The wind was blowing around 15-20 mph, which was good to check out the windage turret. I backed up to 400 yds for a confidence builder. The elevation dial was spot on, but had to make a couple of windage adustments to get it to the center of the target. After I got that figured out I shot a two inch 3 shot group. So I backed up to 500 yds, adjusted the dials and pulled off a 4 inch group.

Troy:Sounds like it is working as advertised.Sobmoa at that yardage is some good shooting.I am glad to hear it works so well, if I can ever decide on a bullet weight and load I may get one some day.

Nice report and good looking setup, but I gotta correct something... you can get an M1 installed on anything, VX I and above. I have one on a 2.5-8x VX3, and when I get home for a bit (I work 1000 miles from home) I'll get some more Leupolds converted to M1 elevation dials.

...elevation is pretty consistant, Troy, X-bullet @ X-vel.= X-drop...

...windage values yer gonna have to calculate in your head & add the appropriate number of clicks in MOA, then remember to return to "Zero"...

...basic rule of thumb triple your 5mph drift for 10mph, double each 5mph increase, subtract for wind angle from 90 degrees or cheat & build yourself a "Drift Chart" for your load...

BK13, seems to me back when I had these dials installed they were only putting them on 30mm tubes. Since then Terry and I have done some research and they do put them on 1" Tubes.

Gene since I got this scope Ive done a ton of learning and still more to go, windage is the hardest. The dials I had made for my load are spot on. Ive shot several times this summer at 500 and 550 yds, with excellent results. Even though the dials are made for my load Im still learning to do it the old fashion way. I have the utmost confidence in this rifle and scope I wouldnt even hesitate to take a 5-600yd shot as long as I had a good solid rest.
This is how accurate these dials are to my load, I turned my elevation knob to 5 (500 yd), and gave my windage 1 click to the right with about a 10 mph cross/quartering wind at 500yds and this was the result.
