Upland game you hunt?

Hello Sportsmen and Sportswomen;

What is the upland game bird hunting like were you live?

What game birds do you hunt?  Which do you enjoy the most hunting?  What do you enjoy hunting them with?

Here it is (1) Bob White Quail and (2) Dove.

Although I hunt Dove some, my real bird hunting passion is Quail.

Shotgun of choice is a S x S double barrel in 20 gauge.  Also have used a semi-auto and a pump.  But those S x S doubles seem to balance and shoot so well on covey rises!

To give you all an accurate picture of this area (Georgia), I will mention that although I prefer a S x S double in 20 gauge for quail or dove, most people here use a semi-auto in 12 gauge (shooting a light load, hopefully!).

What's it like where you are at?

I live on the central coast of California. Dove, quail, turkey and phesant are within a hour to where I live.

Dove and Quail are number one with me.  Dove is abondant but quail is getting hard to find.  My birthday is sept 2 so i tell everyone its the first so I can get the day off.  Been dove hunting since I was 5 (as a retriever).  Raised two boys as retrievers and now they shoot better than I do.

My gun is a over-under 20 ga ( I got it last year), love it.  I used to use pumps mostly (remington and browning), again 20 ga.  My boys like 12 ga, but i guess thats what the young guys like.  20 ga is easier on the shoulder.

Without family and friends hunting would be difficult.  Turkey is available on public lands.  Phesant is only available on private lands (not much of them around).

Not much bird huntin' in my area. Makes it tough for a rabid bird hunter with 8 dogs. :-\
I hunt mostly released quail at my hunt club, and travel for quail, grouse and pheasant. My gun of choice is my Beretta A303 20 ga. with English stock and 26" barrel. Second in my Ruger Red Label 20 ga.

Mostly hunt for pheasants although I do go after dove, turkey, sharptail grouse, hungarian partridge, Canada geese and ducks.  I have not gone out after snow geese in quite a while.  For upland I prefer to use my Benelli 20 ga auto.  Turkey and waterfowl I usually bounce between my 12 ga benelli auto or my remington sp-10 10 ga.
I used to love my ruger red lable 20 ga but traded it off after I got smacked on my cheek too many times!

Upland gunning for Ruffed Grouse here in PA is actually pretty good.  Pheasants are only good on stocked game lands and on private and public reserves.  I've travelled all over the U.S. to hunt upland game and even went to Hungary one year to shoot driven pheasants.  My preference is for side by sides and dearly love my Merkel 247 SL.

Hey Canuck, you can come down with your kids and hunt with me anytime you want!  I wouldn't mind sampling some of the great Spruce Grouse hunting you have up there someday.

Hey all.  I live in Michigan.  We have ringnecks, woodcock, and ruffed grouse.  The pheasant population has been slowly dropping for years, which makes me sad.  On the bright side though, the grouse have been booming, and are still on the upswing.  Those are my favourite.  Fast little buggers.  Makes you appreciate everyone you get.     Also, I am with JB257460.....nothing like a SXS.

California - pheasant, dove, quail, turkey in that order.  Current is either the trusty Rem 870 in 12ga or the Savage 20ga pump I inherited from gramps. I LOVE to pheasant hunt and would someday like to hunt South Dakota or something, especially if I could ever get my hands a weatherby O/U...

And the wifey said its ok if we get a couple of shorthairs this fall/winter, so hopefully by next season they'll be ready for action.
