You will need both bases and rings. Better yet, get a one piece set of talley rings in medium height. This will work well with your leupold.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Re: Leupold Backcountry Mounts?
« on: December 15, 2019, 10:13:11 AM »
I just purchased and mounted my first set yesterday. I put them on a christensen mesa. They lined up VERY well. I put the lapping bar in and went to work. It just barely cleaned up the edges of the rear ring and a touch on the front ring. My talleys have always required much more lapping to square them up. Will get a set for my on order backcountry 6.5-300 as well.

I think its a good bet to get an accumark for max accuracy. Tough to beat those heavy barrels

I tried the 142 ablr without any luck. My ultralight shot them to 1.50" groups. The 140 ab did better at .9" groups at 3459fps. I settled on that for a hunting load. Will give the 130 ab a spin one day. The factory barnes 127 does .75" in my rig.

I have been lucky up here in BC. I found a dealer with 2 dozen boxes on the shelf. I buy 2 every time I pass through that town

I bought a left handed 6.5-300 ultralight as well. When I decided on the caliber I went to my dealer to order an accumark. He had an ultralight in stock and I couldnt resist! I was worried about how it may shoot but its proven decent! I am getting .75" groups with the factory 127 barnes. That isnt the bullet I wanted to shoot though and tried handloading the 142 nosler ablr. Groups opened to about 1.2". I then tried the 140 ab and groups are running about .9" but I have them cooking at 3459 fps. I had my ultralight skim bedded but noticed no accuracy benefits. I may remove the barrel pressure point but not sure yet?

I am diggin the new carbonmark as well. I bought a 6.5-300 ultralight earlier this year and have been enjoying it. I just called my dealer to get a price on the new carbonmark in the big 6.5 and left handed!

Ammo / Re: .257 Wby, Bullet 85 gr for deer?

I run the 80gr ttsx in my accumark and the 100gr ttsx in my ultralight. They both do just fine!

The new trigger didn't impress me. I played with it in the gun room and ended swapping it out for a timney before I shot it. Much better!

My older conquests did have a thicker crosshair but the newer scopes seem to have slimmed them down.

Good choice! I have mainly zeiss on my rigs. My 257s all wear the hd5 conquest 3-15s. I recently bought the V4 6-24 for my 6.5-300. I chose the zmoa reticle as well. Pretty happy with it and will get a custom turret done when I settle on a load. I have never used the V6 series yet.
