.270 Wby
« on: August 25, 2021, 02:52:14 PM »
Hi everyone.

After a while I get back on the road.

I have the opportunity to buy a beautiful Wby, made in Japan, with a beautiful wood, it is .270 wby magnum.

I already have wbys. at .257 and .300.

It will be worth it to shoot the deer, what an experience they have.

I want to keep it light with tips of 130 or maximum 140. I do manual reloading.

I appreciate your comments.

Great choice! Let the rifle decide what it shoots best without planning what you want it to shoot.  :)

The 270 Wby has plenty of downrange energy to put down the biggest game animals in N America. Put the bullet in right place and have a good skinning knife or two ready.
A totally agree that another Weatherby in the safe is a good thing.
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.

Like asking your drinking buddies if you should have another beer!?!?! ;) jk

While i love 257 most, i own plenty of 270's and is probably one of the most versatile calibers in North America! Plenty of offerings in 130/140 class bullets see what she likes and let her eat!

I agree.

I just needed another beer and I went to the right place

It is never enough, the last 3 rifles I have bought are weatherbys, they have all satisfied me.

I prefer the .257 wby, but a new love doesn't hurt.

It just struck me that I see few posts about the .270 Wby.

Greetings

LOL - it doesn't take the spotlight like 257 & 300, we've had great debates on the most underrated wby calibers this one comes up along with 7mm, 240. All are awesome cartridges fit the bill for the purpose. IMO 270 going from 110 to 150 grain loads can offer a wide range. My 270 deluxe jap model in left hand shoots 130 grain scirocco's lights out, I also have a Ultra Light in LH that shoots 140 accobonds lights out and that's plenty enough for me and what i would choose to do with it. It hits like a weatherby - when you find the load that you like i'm sure you will be tickled with your descision.

I also have a ruger no 1 chamber in 270wby that shoots 140 and 150 partition loads very well it's a fun safari style hunting rifle for me in the hill country of texas.

I kinda like weatherby's lol even if it's not in a weatherby rifle! :)

If I could only have one Weatherby caliber, it would probably be the .270.
Come and take it.

find an accurate load with a quality 130 gr bullet in the 3450-3520 fps range(can be done easily with modern powders) and like me, you will sell your 257  ::) Load it to it's full potential and it's on par with factory 6.5-300 ammo and it does that with approx. 15 gr's less powder. It was Roy's first and it's still a great caliber.

My first Weatherby was A 270Wby Mag and it is still my go to favorite.
