357 SIG
« on: November 18, 2025, 11:56:50 AM »
Am I the only one with a 357 SIG? SIG dropped it a while back and now even Glock dropped it. There is still brass and loaded ammo for it online. I do have plenty of ammo, both factory and my loads.  I have almost 300 primed brass and dies on hand. I also have a drop in barrel for a Glock besides this SIG 1911 "Nightmare" .

I used to be friends with a cop who carried one. For awhile, it became a somewhat popular LE round, along with .40 S&W. Glock dropped the .357 from their commercial lines, but they still offer it for law enforcement purchases. With the improvements in bullets and ballistic performance in 9mm, a lot of agencies have gone back to 9mm to a large extent. I would think ammo/components might become harder to find, but the round won't become extinct anytime soon with .357 pistols still being built and sold.
Come and take it.

I have found the 125 gr.  SIG V-Crowns hollow points designed for this round to be very accurate. I was ordering more that brought this subject up. I also ordered the 50gr. Liberty fragmenting ammo for it. I'm supporting the Florida economy, made here! 2300 FPS!   ;D

I think some of these newer cartridges were made for a question that wasn't asked.  let's call it what it is they are handguns. I don't know any cops in my area that don't have an AR in their vehicle as an oh shit gun.    nothing wrong with the old 9mm or 38 special /357 mag in a revolver , for that matter 45 acp been around for a long time. hanguns are handy and they are with you.   so what are a lot of depts going back to 9 mm.  shoot some 147's or some of the better HP's., the 40 was an answer to a hot loaded 10mm which had to be down loaded so women and some men could handle it and that all stemmed from the  1986 Miami FBI shooting.  I'm not sure when police depts actually started in mass going to the 9mm.

I got a great deal on the SIG, probably for the caliber. It is a great looking 1911 with night sights. Loading the 357 SIG is like loading a rifle round with its bottle neck design. I suppose I could drop in a 40 S&W barrel into it if supplies do disappear. The magazines wouldn't need to be changed.  ;D

I have an Sig P229 in 357 Sig.
When I first got it, I also bought a 40S&W barrel for it.
Easy enough to swap, both very accurate.
As you point out, same mags so all good on that front.

I had a Sig-226 in 257 Sig, with a 40 S&W extra barrel.   I sold it to buy a rifle.
