Which Mark V takes Rem 700 mounts and which Mark V takes Mark V mounts?

Later Mark Vs no longer take Rem 700 bases. You will notice in base listings such as Leupold that Mark V has its own mounts. Some time ago Leupold advised me that the front base for Model 70 was OK for front of Mark V and rear base of Rem 700 OK for rear of Mark V. Sounds like at some point the front of the Mark V action has been changed to M70 dimensions.

The current Wbys I have are all new and late models and I have Leupold QR for Mark V (not for Rem 700). However, I am looking at buying an older Made in US Mark V and don't know at which serial number Wby changed.

Perhaps Wby could have something on their website about this.

Mike,

For many years people have been able to use Rem 700 mounts on a Mark V. Was this the perfect match.  No.  the dimensions of a Mark V and Rem 700 are different and today are even more different then years past.

Weatherby has not changed the Dimensions on the Mark V for many many years, so all of our Talley mounts will fit most any US Production Mark V.  If you have specific questions about a rifle you can always call and ask for Technical Services.

Taking the above into account.......mounts such as Leupold QRW cross slots are not listed for Wby Mark V so could Rem 700 bases be used or is there too much difference.....or is Leupold suggestion from some time ago correct about using front base from M70 for front of Mark V and Rem 700 rear for Wby rear.
