Vanguard 2 Scope mounts
« on: September 23, 2012, 03:16:03 PM »
I am new to the Weatherby world, I have a new vanguard S2 on order in .308 Win that should be here in a couple days. I already have my optics which is the new Burris Fullfield 2 E1 (4.5-14X42). I am looking at ordering the Weatherby one piece Vanguard mounts. I was wondering if anyone else is using this particular optic as I wanted the low mounts. I wanted to be sure there would be no barrel interference with the optic.

Thanks,
JP

I run a 42mm on a Vanguard on med Tally's tho mine are the two piece units. I believe lows would work as well. You can see the gap mine has between bell and barrel.

Great, thanks for the advise and the photo, I will go with the medium mounts for this scope. I will post some photos of the new jewel once it comes in.

I like to keep them low but it is a cheek weld fit that is important and I always buy them locally so I can return and get the next taller or smaller heights if needed! if ya have to push down with the cheek too hard a taller ring can fix this? I am also partial to 2 piece WARNE products as the price point and quality are excellent.

Have you checked out the DNZ scope mounts, one peice mounts, grade 8 allen screws, they also send allen wrench with mounts, the mounts they sent me fit my vangard s2 300wsm perfect with the 3.5x10x50 luepold, and they are great people to deal with!!!

I have a Fullfield II 4.5-14 on my Vanguard.  I read on one of the posts that due to the 42mm scope, I should go higher. I opted for the medium Talley mounts.  It is pretty close to the barrel on mine.

Not to derail the thread but I looked at the Fulfield E1 and thought the glass was great for the price, but didn't like that the reticle did not extend to the edge of the glass. If they came out with a regular duplex reticle I would not hesitate to purchase one if looking for a scope in that price range.
To the original post, I would opt for Medium Warne Maxima Rings & Warne steel Bases or a the one piece DNZ Medium. My brother has a DNZ low mounted on his S2 holding his Busnell Elite 3200 with a 40mm AO. I was surprised it cleared, but it did. I had the Warne mediums on my Vanguard and my 50mm (not AO) clears easily.

Well, I got my rifle and Davidson's actually sent my dealer the combo that came the Simmons scope and Leupold rifleman mounts and rings. I used the rifleman mounts and it clears, by a hair but it clears.

Low Rings for scopes with up to a 44mm objective lense if your rifle has a sporter weight barrel.  Medium Rings for scopes with a 50mm objective lense if your rifle has a sporter weight barrel.  High Rings for scopes with a 56mm objective lense if your rifle has a sporter weight barrel.  Consider your rifle's barrel contour - If your scope has a 42mm objective and your rifle has a heavy contoured barrel then you will need to move up to a set of medium rings, etc.  Extra High Rings for scopes with a large objective lense when mounted on rifles with a heavy barrel and some single shot rifles

That advice doesn't work a good bit of the time. I have three scopes in medium rings with 42-44mm objective lenses, and only one of them would clear in low rings. The only 50mm scope I ever had required high rings to clear the barrel.

All of my rifles are sporter barrel's in contours similar to the #1 and #2 contours from Weatherby.

Medium for 40mm and high for 50mm, have tried the medium for the 50mm won't fit, have tried the low for 40mm just way to close.
